Jamie Young

Goalkeeper from Australia who had a trial at Reading in February 2001, playing in the Academy Under-17 game with Wimbledon on 10/2/2001.

Came on as a substitute in the reserves' 1-5 defeat at Cardiff City in August 2001.

From the Reading Chronicle, early 2001:

There maybe another Australian in the Royals ranks soon. Goalkeeper Jamie Young, 15, has been offered a three year contract following a successful trial period from the Queensland Academy of Sport in Brisbane – and it's all down to fellow Aussie Andy Bernal. "I was playing for the Academy and Andy Bernal signed me up for SFX agency where he works," said Young. "He told me what a great place it was over here and I thought this was the best place for me to come. He knew all the players and it seemed a safe bet. The standard is good here. Ball skills are better and players are more technical." He added: "It's a great set up and the club is on the go. I've been offered an Academy contract which I'll discuss with my parents back home before making a decision. It's a bit of an adventure as well as a career move but my aim is always to sort out a career."
