Russell Goodenough
Born in Slough, Russ started at Tottenham Hotspur but by 1985/86 he was an associate schoolboy with Reading. In 1989/90 he was a defender on Reading's books but during that season he retired from the professional game with a knee injury.
In 1999/2000 he was player-manager of Screwfix Division 1 team Pewsey Vale, keeping them up one season and winning the Wiltshire Senior Cup. His knee still troubled him when playing. In October 2000, he offered to stand down (by now from a role as assistant manager) when Don Rogers took over as the club's manager.
Russ then moved to Ellom in Scotland to work on a forestry, farming and holiday business with his parents. In the 2001/02 season, he played for Cruden Bay in Scottish junior football.
