Having studied the sociology of sport, I have spent much of my time writing academic pieces on the history and development of motorsport. I am also a fan of motorsport and mixing those two aspects together I knew I wasn't the only one with an interest in the sport beyond the facts and figure. I am always looking to understand the mechanisms behind the sport and why it has developed as it has, and what bearing on the future we can gather from that information.
From my time writing freelance I was bouyed by the feedback I received from readers whether or not they agreed with what I was saying, the fact I had provoked people to think and start debates is exactly what I hoped for. I hope my sociology background has influenced my articles to bring a fresh and different approach to the issues in motorsport today rather than the rhetoric style that often dominates motorsports journalism. On saying that I hope the sociology doesn't make them too heavy - I try to entertain too!
