Still No Front Brakes! (aka The TransAutoSport Saga)

One of the first things I ordered when I was getting ready for the build were a pair of Bremsport 4-pot alloy brake calipers. I chose these are they are much lighter than the original Ford M16 cast iron caliper and unusually are a direct bolt-on replacement for these. Unfortunately it became apparent that despite being ordered in February there was still no sign of them being shipped in August, although it did now seem that they were being manufactured, which was a step forward. I eventually got very tired of the bullshit excuses being given by their complete wind-up sales people for their non arrival and even more amazed when they cancelled my order, disputed the original agreed selling price when I tried to re-order (as they were supposed to be available in 3 weeks) and then charged me delivery on another item I re-ordered at that time which was out of stock when first ordered, which then didn’t fit! This was the final straw and I cancelled the whole lot. True to form they made me pay to return the brake pads I had received earlier for a refund and had the nerve to claim this was the norm with mail order (making a sarcastic reference to Marks and Spencer shops, which was a bit rich given the level of service they had provided). I did receive the refund for the parts and two back-orders I was incorrectly charged shipping for, but I had to ask five times for this. I was not alone in being messed about over these calipers nor in their terrible attitude to customer service it seems. Not a recommended supplier!

Perhaps this doesn't deserve a page all of its own, but one day maybe someone from TAS will read this or perhaps more usefully some of their prospective customers will.

The new plan on the front disks is to get a very tasty set of brakes developed specifically for bike-engined-cars from Martin Bell’s Kit Car Workshop.
