Bryn Terfel has a glittering international career, having taken leading roles in most major opera houses, including Salzburg, La Scala, Vienna, Metropolitan Opera New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Paris, Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Royal Opera House Covent Garden. He is regular choice for leading roles at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, and English National Opera.
Bryn won the Cardiff Singer Of The World Competition Leider Prize in 1989, has been a professional performer since 1991. He now frequently appears on TV and radio, and has produced many recordings. Many people will remember seeing him singing at the Last Night Of The Proms 1995, when he wore a Welsh team rugby shirt, a Manchester United cap, sang "Land of Hope and Glory" in Welsh, and kicked a rugby ball into the audience! - He's our kind of man!
Hart Male Voice Choir is honoured and very proud that he has accepted our invitation to be our President.
This song was composed especially for the Hope House Appeal by Delyth Rees. Hope House is a children's hospice which serves children and families living in Cheshire and Shropshire as well as those living in Mid and North Wales. The Hospice cares for physically frail and life-limited children, as well as providing community support, practical help for families at home, advice and counselling.
Bryn Terfel has made a recording of the song "Another Day" (Sain SCD2100B) as part of the campaign to raise funds for the Hope House Appeal. Bryn hails from Pant Glas in North Wales, and Hope House is just over the nearby English border, in the village of Morda, near Oswestry.
With the permission of the copyright holder, Valerie Hoppé has made an arrangement of this song for male voice choir and baritone solo. This has been published, by "Curiad" and royalties from sales have been donated to the Hope House Appeal.
Copies of this arrangement may be purchased from the publishers (see below).
On Saturday, 9th August 1997, Hart Male Voice Choir, together with their guests Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir, presented a concert in Shrewsbury Abbey in aid of Hope House, which raised £1200 for the Hope House Appeal. This concert was the debut for "Another Day, the soloist being Julien Fletcher, baritone, of HMVC.
The words of the song "Another Day" are as follows:
When storm clouds are gath'ring,
And skies above you are grey,
No silver lining seen,
Just another gloomy day,
When shadows are threat'ning,
You're feeling frail and forlorn,
In moments such as these,
That's when doubts and fears are born.
Here you'll find a haven,
A shoulder you can lean on,
Lay down your burden,
Tomorrow is another day.
When footsteps are weary,
The path so steep that lies ahead,
The journey lingers on,
And the road is far to tread.
When spirits are flagging,
You're wond'ring what's in store,
Forget your troubled load,
Come inside, step through the door.
Here you'll find a haven,
A shoulder you can lean on,
Lay down your burden,
Tomorrow is another day.
For all who enter, let fear depart.
Let faith replace the pain.
Hope gladdens the heavy heart,
Like sunshine after rain.
Here you'll find a haven,
A shoulder you can lean on,
Lay down your burden,
Tomorrow is another day.
