Musical Director

Valerie Hoppé MBE, GGSM, LGSM, ARCM

Having a Welsh background, it is not surprising that Valerie acquired a love of choral singing.

She attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she specialised in piano, and in choral training and conducting.

Following graduation, she took up a teaching profession, becoming Head of Music at the Harriett Costello School in Basingstoke, and then of the Heath End School, Farnham. She has also been very active musically in the local community, forming and developing various adult and youth choirs, and arranging various musical events and festivals. Valerie is currently Musical Director of, among others, Carmina and Vivace Cantamus Girls Choir. She is also an accredited and active Choral Adjudicator.

Valerie was appointed Musical Director of the Hart Male Voice Choir in 1980. She has developed it into a versatile concert choir while also producing winning performances at national and international competitions. Valerie is also responsible for much of the choir's musical repertoire.

Valerie was awarded the MBE for services to music in the 2003 New Year Honours List.
