1999 Dartford Festival Allotments Competition Awards Ceremony

The Awards Ceremony was held at Dartford Civic Centre on Tuesday November 23, 1999 from 6.30, and was attended by the Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Ivor Jones, other Members and Officers of Dartford Borough Council, Representaatives from local allotment sites and a delegation from the press. Unfortunately, John and Jan Bourne (Dartford Road Allotments) winners of the Borough Shield for the best allotment on a site formerly managed by Dartford Borough Council, and Alan Reynolds (Dartford Road Allotments), winner of the Fred Brown Cup for the best novice gardener, were unable to attend, so their awards were collected on their behalf by Robert Johnson, Secretary of the QED Allotments Group, which organised the competition. The Villages Cup (for the best plot on a site owned by a town or parish council) was won by David Pearson (Bean Allotments), and a special award was made to his son Matthew (Age 11) for helping out on the allotments.
