"OUR COMMITMENT:
- We will lobby for a public recognition from central government
of the unique importance of Britain's community gardens
- We will press local authorities to acknowledge the importance
of community gardens within their Unitary Development Plans -
offering real protection to existing sites and encouraging
the creation of further sites in accordance with their Local
Agenda 21 objectives
- We will lend our support to a national open spaces policy
which takes account of the quality as well as the quantity of open
space
- We will support community gardens in practical ways by giving
advice and offering a free one-year subscription to every
community garden in Britain that writes to us* to request one
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- Join an existing project - community gardens need your skills
- Start your own project. You can send off for a starter pack
with all the information you need from the National Federation of
City FarmsÝ
- Lobby your council - under Local Agenda 21 they have to
listen!"
