Allotment nature project:
MS & PF are continuing to work with this project and will supply an article for the Borough News.
Action: MS & PF to detail the project aim and send to JB for inclusion in a Borough News article for Jan/Feb 2001.
Biodiversity Group Name:
It was decided that the group will keep the name "Biodiversity" but when promoting the group within the community then phrases such as "Wildlife, Nature & Conservation" shall be used. This will hopefully be more user-friendly terminology for individuals who do not have a technical background.
Borough News article:
It was agreed that the group should aim to get an article together for release in Feb 2001. The article could contain the following
It was agreed that at the next meeting in January the group should dedicate half the meeting to compiling the article to obtain a draft.
Actions: JB: to approach Russell Bowie (editor of Borough News)
ALL: to think in some detail about the article and what can go in.
Group Aims & Objectives:
The group provisionally agreed the Aims & Objectives of the group. The group at the next meeting will approve these (Please note that someone at the meeting has accidentally picked up the aims & objectives that we approved. Please can you forward them to me and I will send out ASAP..thank you)
Invitees to the next meeting:
To try and get a more diverse interest in the group various individuals/groups need to be approached. One method will be via the Borough News article. RB stated that we should look at inviting members of local Parish Councils and local businesses
Action: JB to compile a list of invites ready for next meeting
ALL To send to JB any names of groups/individuals who should be invited
Group Chair:
JB stated that Ian Hammerton would be prepared to take the chair unless there was interest from another individual. Malcolm Still stated he would like to take the chair and therefore was voted in as the new Chair of the group
AOB:
MS stated that there is an individual at B&Q who is responsible for Biodiversity & other environmental issues. It was agreed to invite him to the next meeting to present his role at B&Q and how this may fit into the group's aims & objectives
Action: JB to make contact and also to make this an item on the agenda for the next meeting
Malcolm Stone presented to the group the BAP project that the Allotments group is to implement. The project was detailed and covered some areas that the Biodiversity group could certainly get involved with. Of particular interest is the areas of recording & mapping species & habitats on the allotment sites and also the education & awareness of BD within the community
Rick Bayne of the NWK Countryside Project gave a brief talk to the group on the NWK Countryside project and what types of projects it gets involved with. It was agreed that this should be a regular item on the agenda.
Action: JB to include onto agenda
