The idea for a Darenth Country Park QED Project was proposed in November 1997 as a means to give practical expression to the notion of sustainable development in the context of rapid urbanisation in the northeastern quarter of the Borough of Dartford (see Map below). At the heart of the proposals now being formulated for the Project is a community composting scheme which is to be organised by the QED Waste Management Group, and which will draw on green wastes from new residential developments in the area and the manure from the nearby Arrow Riding Centre for the Disabled. |

The compost produced will then be put to use elsewhere on the Project site (see Map below), initially on a new "model allotment site" currently being planned by the QED Allotments Group. The first Planning Document for this one acre allotment site is available on line. Other proposed uses of the Project site include a Teaching Apiary, a Heritage Orchard and a Community Vineyard, and horticultural uses on the site will take advantages of organic methods and permaculture principles. |
