Profile (by Ren Azuma): A site of 2,909
square meters operated by Nerima-ward council on
land leased for over 10 years from a local farmer.
There are 48 plots each of 30 square meters (double
the usual plot size of 15 square meters in urban
areas) let on two year leases which are renewable
only by lottery. The usage fee is 14,400 yen (85
pounds) per plot per annum. Funding obtained from
Ministry of Construction programmes.
Top Left: Entrance and the clubhouse built by
Nerima-ward council. The clubhouse has rooms for
meetings and recreation, as well as a toilet. Top
Right: The site has large plots, with individual
composters on each plot. which van also be used for
