Air Quality
Phil Kessel can give only limited information from the diffusion tubes as they have to be in place for a full year before the measurements are valid. Boxes for the measurement of particles and Nox will also soon be in place.
B&Q "Quest"
Neil Williams of B&Q has offered job lots of B&Q products costing up to £250, for specific projects. It is possible for combined QED Groups to make bids for joint projects. B&Q also give away surplus unsaleable goods to selected good causes.
National Car-Free Day Competition
This is planned for June 16th. The Steering Group has agreed the expenditure of up to £200 for an annual competition. As there has so far been no response from those companies which have been approached the Group decided not to proceed with the competition this year. The Group is agreed that it will plan a similar competition for next year should Car-Free Day or something similar occur. This will provide time for a properly managed campaign. This information will be given to any firm which shows interest.
National Bike Week
No date fixed? No response so far? John Strong will chase these.
Draft Letter to Highways Department
This letter concerns better cycling routes. John Strong will contact Bill Lewis and Tony Mack to follow this up. If time permits the letter will be considered at the next Transport Group meeting.
QED Year Planner
Richard Wiltshire will print the text from the web-site, and he and John Strong will use this, together with the leaflet, to provide copy for the Year Planner.
Dartford Festival
a) Dr Bike (Giles Wolfe) requires £50 expenses for the two days. John Strong will check whether Cycling Opportunities Group will fund this, and if not follow it up.
b) The result of the Cycling Opportunities Group meeting regarding the cycling proficiency try-out is not yet known. John Strong will investigate and report to the next Transport Group meeting.
c) Phil Kessel to give contact name & Tel No to John Strong re Bluewater to invite as part of QED Transport display.
d) Connex South &endash;Eastern will have a Rail-Awareness display which they will staff.
e) There will be a visual display concerning pollution. Suggestions for some active, hands-on activities will be put before the next meeting. Phil Kessel will follow this up.
f) Inviting Channel Tunnel Rail Link to create a display was considered and then dismissed.
g) A Food-Miles exhibit is a contingency back-up which may be used. This will be discussed at the next meeting if it is decided to go ahead with it. Richard Wiltshire and John Strong to progress.
h) The electric van will be at the Festival. If there is no outside display it will be parked in front of the QED tent with a sign.
i) John Strong will draw up the draft plan of the QED marquee by June 9th.
j) John Strong will telephone the bus company.
k) Volunteers are needed for the days.
l) John Strong will try to borrow a Sinclair C5 for the parade. QED may lead the parade behind the Mayor. We need a decent display-easy quick ideas are needed for the parade and the tent.
m) It was suggested that cards be made containing messages such as "I came by bus".
n) A QED recruitment/awareness leaflet will be discussed at the next meeting.
o) The DBC Festival Committee may meet the Green Roadshow organisers when they are in London. Phil Kessel will ask Paddy Herlihy to chase up relevant questions e.g. what space they will require, what is known of their plans etc. An information pack will be available on Friday June 5th.
