3) Environment Monitoring/Quality Indicators:
Air Quality: JB stated that there were no significant Air Quality issues to report.
4) Planning:
Littlebrook Powerstation: DM mentioned that he had seen a planning application associated with Littlebrook power station, but did not know any details. SW informed the group that Property Services had submitted an application for the "Potential development of land".
Joyce Green site & Eastern Quarry: The group discussed the whole issue of development on the above sites regarding the issues of air quality and waste/recycling. New Building Regs. State that "Substantial developments" can include recycling facilities. DM also asked if planning consents can include issues of sustainability e.g. Grey water recycling. It was decided that the group would like some more detail advice on the issues relating to the development of the above sites and air quality/waste/EIA's etc.
Action: JB to invite Sharon Atkins and Alec Lauder to the next meeting.
5) Contaminated Land: No issues.
6) Best Value Targets and Recycling:
Best Value targets & recycling scheme: JP stated that the consultant that DBC are working with is still trying to find an environmental body to fund the recycling scheme. Budgets for 2002/3 have now been approved to meet the cost of the proposed trials. These should go ahead as soon as possible, as long as the outcome of the Cabinet meeting on 27th March is positive. When the trial starts it will include one fifth of the Borough. If successful green waste recycling will commence about three months later.
Best Value: DM informed the group that he had attended the Best Value Waste & Recycling meeting at the Council offices and represented QED.
8) Festival: The group decided that it needs to brainstorm any ideas for the festival and present them at the next meeting. DT stated that a waste vehicle we be present at the show to promote waste and recycling
9) AOB:
Scrap Car dealers: The group mentioned new legislation being implemented to ensure scrap car dealers registered with the District Council. The main purpose of this legislation is to ensure that dealers maintain records of all cars and car parts that they have on their premises. Police can inspect these records at anytime. The aim is to reduce the volume of stolen vehicles being processed via some dealers.
Cube it!
Cube it is an initiative that clears up dumped and untaxed vehicles from the Borough. The second phase is ongoing at the moment
