race. This will now happen at the Colin Potter Memorial 10km in Derby
tomorrow evening, Friday July 4th. Last night's Ironbridge 4 and a bit
was Richard's 999th career race. Says Richard "The plan was to mark
the occasion on some gorgeous Lakeland fell later in the year, but
then along came this nonsense to race 30 times in June, and the plan
is out the window. Never mind, Friday it is - I did the Colin Potter
10km last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so bring on number 1,000 ! I
plan to have a good night" |

June 13 ~
Birmingham City Council have finally released details of their
inaugural half marathon to be held on Sunday October 26th.
Predictably, they have opted for the tried & tested (and so boring)
race route which starts from Alexander Stadium, heads into the city
centre on the A34 dual carriageway, through the city centre, out to
Edgbaston, then out and back along the Hagley Road main road before
finishing in Centenary Square. Sadly, they have also decided that
entries will be via an online entry system only, and the entry fee is
£20 for club runners : register at
www.birminghamhalfmarathon.com. Guess what ! There is a "small 10%
administration fee" for on-line entries (strange given that there is
no other way to enter) |

June 4 ~ OK -
it's kiss and tell time. Now that RICHARD BAKER has got the
last two races under his belt with almost 300 miles of travelling, he
is now ready to reveal his summer challenge for 2008. Richard is
attempting to complete 30 races in the 30 days of June (one a day if
at all possible). Says Richard : " There was a very real chance that
this idea wouldn't have got off the ground, given a 180 mile round
trip on Monday, followed by another 110 miles on Tuesday. Now those
are in the bag, I am a little more confident, and am prepared to go
out on a limb and let everyone know what I am planning. This weekend
will be my next difficult time - the Notts 10 on Friday evening will
be followed within 15 hours by the Dorridge 8 mile fun run on Saturday
and then the Aldridge 10km on Sunday." You can follow Richard's
progress or otherwise by following the link above to RICHARD BAKER'S
