AMAZING FEET RC : LATEST NEWS ARCHIVE ~ JANUARY 2011

January 31 ~ A 'race alert' e-mail from Running Diary to-day is headed "2011 Stourbridge Stagger Race Full", though there is no mention of this on the Stourbridge RC website. Please check with race organisers if you are still hoping to get a place
January 31 ~ Provisional results from yesterday's Turkey trot are now available, though there are no categories recorded on the results. Details are on the RESULTS PAGE
January 31 ~ Provisional results are in from the Shifnal Gallop yesterday : ANDY NORRIS was the M60 Champion, finishing just 9 seconds ahead of the second M60. RICHARD BAKER also did well, recording a rare third place in the M55 category. Full details are on the RESULTS PAGE
January 30 ~ Postponed from before Christmas, the Wolverhampton Turkey Trot finally took place to-day, with JOHN AMOS taking part for AMAZING FEET. Results to follow
January 30 ~ Following his M65 10km club record at Telford last week, it wasn't all good news for DAVID WHYMANT as he lost his M55 10km club record in the same race. JOHN AMOS is the new Club M55 10km record holder with his time of 40.13 at the Telford 10km on January 23rd. It was a close call, but John knocked just six seconds off David's time of 40.19 at the Brambles 10km in September 2005. The CLUB RECORDS PAGE has been updated
January 30 ~ DAVID WHYMANT has been confirmed as the new Club M65 10km record holder following his 44.18 time at the Telford 10km on January 23rd. David knocked an impressive 8 minutes and 13 seconds of the previous best of 52.31 set six years and one month ago by LINDSAY PULLEY at Wheaton Aston. The CLUB RECORDS PAGE has been updated
January 30 ~ Race number 7 in January for RICHARD BAKER as he and ANDY NORRIS take part in the excellent Shifnal Gallop 10km to-day. A wonderful mix of road and tracks with all facilities within 100 yards of the race car park - medals AND free tea/coffee & flapjacks to all finishers. Results to follow
January 26 ~ It looks like new club records were set at the Telford 10km last Sunday - both JOHN AMOS and DAVID WHYMANT have advised that they broke the previous category 10km records for M55 and M65 respectively.
January 23 ~ Strange that having started two races (elite runners at 10.30 and the rest at 11.15, we then get results from separate races merged into one. A great shame for JOHN AMOS who ran a great race to finish 10th, but is down in the results at 84th : also for the 1-2-3 in the second race who get NO recognition for actually winning a race. For the record, DAVID WHYMANT won the MV65 category and full details are now on the RESULTS PAGE

January 23 ~ Postponed due to the bad weather in December, three FEET headed to Telford to-day to take part in the Telford Christmas 10km in Town Park. JOHN AMOS has a terrific race finishing in just over 40 minutes, while RICHARD BAKER makes it 6 races for the year so far. DAVID WHYMANT also takes part : full results to follow

January 22 ~ Great stuff from our new FOOT OF THE YEAR IAN HALL, and DAVID PYE who completed the 45 miles Northampton to Tring ultra event to-day. Details are on the RESULTS PAGE, but as so often with 'chip companies', sadly there are no details of finishers age categories in the official results (nor indeed clubs)

January 22 ~ Now that the Presentation Evening is done, and I no longer have to write speeches and go back over 13 months of club members' achievements, hopefully there will be time to update some sections of the website. First up is the INTER-CLUB RACE LEAGUE PAGE, which is now fully updated

January 21 ~ The fourth trophy of the evening was won in a landslide with over 70% of the vote : MARTIN DAVIES took the Best Newcomer title

January 21 ~ Also absent from the awards evening, IAN HALL deservedly became the first ever non-committee member to collect the Foot of the Year trophy, following his brilliant efforts for the club as Cross Country Captain

January 21 ~ It had to happen eventually, but the 2010 awards evening was the first time that any of our winners had actually not been in attendance in sixteen years. In her absence, SARAH ARMSTRONG won the main trophy of the evening, the Runner of the Year prize.

January 21 ~ What a sensational night for GERALDEEN LYNCH. Geraldeen had already won the Ladies Race League trophy, but also collected Worcestershire County Championship medals, as well as an ever-present club Cross Country League medal. The best was to come later though, as Geraldeen also walked off with the Most Improved Runner of the Year award

January 21 ~ At tonight's star-studded Awards & Presentation Evening, around 30 club members and guests enjoyed the end of year "pat-on-the-back" at the Aggborough Suite at KHFC.  A huge thank you to DAVID WHYMANT and his wife ANNA who brought along a fun quiz for the first hour of the evening - the dingbats and sweets rounds were brilliant - before everyone enjoyed a buffet supper ahead of the annual awards

January 18 ~ Sadly, due to a lack of interest, we have no choice but to cancel the Mastermind Quiz that we had arranged for the Presentation Evening this coming Friday. This would have been a fun way to start the evening, but as of tonight, only CRAIG LEWIS has volunteered to have a go with Kidderminster Harriers FC as his chosen specialist subject. IF 3 members were to decide to rescue the idea tonight, I will put together questions tomorrow, but time is running out
January 17 ~ The first committee meeting of 2011 takes place this evening at the King & Castle pub in Kidderminster, with all four committee members present.
January 17 ~ Full details from yesterday's Not The Roman IX 12km are now available : see the RESULTS PAGE
January 16 ~ LAST CHANCE for members to put their names down for the Mastermind Quiz at Friday's Presentation Evening.  Just one person has so far offered to take the plunge, so if at least two further volunteers are not forthcoming in the next 24 hours, the idea will sadly have to be scrapped
January 16 ~ At the traditional season opener of the Inter-Club Race League, just six club members made the trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to take part in the Not The Roman IX 12km. A windy, blustery day greeted the runners, though at times the race was also blessed with blue skies and gorgeous mid-January sunshine. Details of who took part are on the RESULTS PAGE : results to follow
January 15 ~ Another excellent turnout at Coventry in the third race of the 2010/2011 cross Country season. SHAW PYE brings the title chasing men's team home in FIRST PLACE !  The team also finish first, extending their lead at the top of the table. Full details to follow

January 12 ~ RICHARD BAKER was back in action tonight at the Derby Midweek 5km, the fifth race in the 2010/11 winter series. January 8 ~ A great turnout from the FEET at the Worcestershire Cross Country Championships to-day at Cofton Park. Our ladies finish second behind Bromsgrove & Redditch AC, with SARAH ARMSTRONG & RACHEL WARD taking individual prizes. Despite a vital Division 3 fixture next weekend, our men still turned out in force with a double figure squad. Full results to follow

Starting at 11.57pm, the Midnight Mile from Burton Bridge Inn in Burton-upon-Trent took nine intrepid athletes from 2010 into 2011 with runners predicting their time for the measured mile. Details are on the RESULTS PAGE with Richard recording a third place finish in the race, and in the predicted times competition. No individual race third places in 20 years, then two come along on the same night !

This is your night, so please make every effort to attend, and please let JANE PYE know now !
December 31 ~ Fixtures for the 2011 competition can now be found on the INTER-CLUB RACE LEAGUE PAGE. The over-riding factor in the selection for 2011 was to look after member's finances as much as possible, especially given the effect that VAT rises, fuel duty rises and high oil prices will have next year. We have therefore stayed "close to home" as much as possible, but have changed five of the 16 races from last year to keep interest, while two races make their Race League debuts. The three Worcs Championship events are included - the new Droitwich Half Marathon (confirmed), the Shuttle 10km and Stumble multi-terrain. Entry forms and further information can be found at the top of the RACE DIARY PAGE

This race has been re-scheduled for Monday January 3rd 2011 and an extra race has been added to the series to make up for the cancellation of race one. See the RACE DIARY PAGE for details
December 28 ~ After running twice in six weeks, RICHARD BAKER made it two races in two days (sound familiar ?) when he took part in the annual Christmas Pace Race at Coventry, organised by Massey Ferguson Running Club. Sadly, patches of ice on the usual 3.55 mile course at the War Memorial Park meant that the normal event couldn't be held, but a hastily arranged FIVE-LAP course over muddy grass and safer paths was held instead, initially thought to be 5kms but times indicate an even shorter course. Watches were not allowed with the winner being the runner closest to his or her predicted time. Results to follow
December 27 ~ Full results from Wheaton Aston to-day are now available thanks to Brian Smith's new website and can be found on the RESULTS PAGE. Well done to JOHN AMOS & DAVID WHYMANT who both won their categories
December 27 ~ If you're looking for a local 10km next weekend, then why not give the Fladbury Festive Five a try ? Further details are on the RACE DIARY PAGE
December 27 ~ The final race of the 2010 Inter-Club Race League sees just four club members brave the cold and the sleet to complete the Wheaton Aston 10km. results are still awaited, but well done to DAVID WHYMANT who confirms his second place finish, and to GERRY SANDERS who completes yet another ever-present season and nicks third place from CRAIG BONE

December 14 ~ Some time around November 25 my long-suffering computer decided to die on me - refusing point blank to fire up when prompted (kicks, karate chops, throwing out of the window - well maybe not the last one). Hence the long delay since the last club website update. Once it's gone, there really isn't anything you can do - can't update anything; can't post any apology, can't contact anyone my e-mail to let them know. On December 4th, my kids bought me a new PC (isn't it great when your kids turn out so wonderful ?) and a couple of days later I was hooked up to the internet and my new e-mails (all others are lost of course). Last weekend I finally got Microsoft Office back - though the 2010 version doesn't have FrontPage - and finally to-day, the missing link was loaded. So, back in business ?  Hope so - let's see what happens when I press the necessary buttons !   Apologies for the weeks without your favourite website : please be patient while I catch up with all the recent fantastic news !
December 14 ~ Full details from Sneyd are now on the RESULTS PAGE
December 14 ~ Full details from Mortimer Forest are now on the RESULTS PAGE. Well done to DAVID WHYMANT for finishing as second M65, and to LOUISE MASSEY who recorded a top ten category finish. December 12 ~ JOHN AMOS decides to forego an ever-present League season and avoid the horrors of Mortimer Forest to take part in the revived Sneyd Christmas Pudding 10. December 9 ~ Full details from MARK COOPER's run in the Paphos 10km are now on the RESULTS PAGE
December 4 ~ Our ladies also enjoyed their second race of the season in the Midlands Women's League, finishing 24th out of 34 clubs in the snow at Perry Park, Birchfield. Our vets team came home 7th out of 19 teams, and we finished six in the race. Results to follow
December 4 ~ Race two of the 2010/11 Birmingham & District Cross Country League, and another record breaking day for our men's team. We field a total of 20 finishers - our highest ever by 25% - and we finish in FIRST place, beating our previous best of third in November 2010. Not only do we win the day, but sufficiently to also take the overall lead of Division 3 after two of the four races
