THE
10th
KINGSBURY
CLASSIC 10km
TUESDAY MAY
11th 2010 : 7.30 pm
We are back for the tenth time with
this classic 10km race through the glorious scenery of Kingsbury Water
Park in Warwickshire : two laps of footpaths, grass tracks and a short
tarmac section twisting around the lakes and pools of the water park, with
a section alongside the river. Once again PEEL ROAD RUNNERS will be
assisting us with marshalling duties on the night, ensuring a pleasant ,
problem-free event for everyone.
Despite
increased costs from Kingsbury Water Park to us, we have decided to keep
the entry fees at last year's level : this includes your free car parking
which would otherwise cost you £3. Full race details, and previous
results, are all available below.

that we shall open the 2010 race on November 10th 2009 and will start to
distribute entry forms from that date. There is an option to download an
entry form below.

MAY 12
:: What a glorious afternoon to set up a
race course as the sun shone out of a beautiful blue sky. True the
wind was gusting somewhat, which became stronger by race start time,
but an excellent day for the ninth Kingsbury Classic.
Congratulations to our 2009 Champions CHRIS DAVIES of Worcester AC and
a second title in three years for LINDA HOWELL of Bournville Harriers
with a ladies course record. |
|
MAY 11 ::
Good news on the weather front for tomorrow : according to the
Kingsbury Water Park site, patchy low cloud tomorrow morning will burn
off and it will be another dry day with plenty of sunshine. It should
become warm in the afternoon despite strong and gusty winds, with a
maximum temperature of 17 degrees. Bring the family along to enjoy a
walk around the lakes. |
|
MAY 11 :: One day to go, and everything is ready for the ninth
running of the original and best Kingsbury Classic. The coffee shop
will be open from around 6.15 on the night, St Johns Ambulance will be
present, as will Event Photography to capture your finest moment.
Entries are available on the night from 6.00pm at £10 (£2 reduction
for affiliated club members) ~ please do not turn up before 6.00 or
you will be required to pay the £3 car parking charge. This will be
free after six. |

RACE REPORT 2007 > |
|
After
four weeks of almost unbroken wall-to-wall sunshine, the 2007
Kingsbury Classic was held on a day of heavy rain, turning much of the
course soft and muddy. Fortunately the rain just about held off for
most of the race itself, which was won for the 4th time by ANTHONY
JEWKES of Oak Park RC in a time of 38.04. Despite this being Anthony's
slowest winning time to date, he was still over a minute ahead of
runner-up GAVIN DAVIES from Centurion RC in 39.35, with JASON RICHARDS
of Tipton Harriers third in 40.03. In the ladies race, LINDA
HOWELL of Bournville Harriers finished 11th overall to take the title
in 41.44, almost six minutes ahead of the ladies runner-up REBECCA
LAWRENCE from Peel Road Runners in 47.32, with LAURA McGRATH third in
48.06.
Numbers were
disappointingly low, which again casts a doubt over whether we will be
able to continue to promote this event. Two years ago we were up to
200 entries and the future of the Kingsbury Classic looked bright.
However, huge losses as we have incurred in 2006 and 2007 cannot
continue to be absorbed by other events - we have to pay KWP £270 to
be able to put on this race, plus the costs of medals & trophies,
numbers, St John's Ambulance and printing costs for entry forms &
information packs. If you are reading this, please e-mail and TELL US
what it is about this race that you don't like. So far, every e-mail
we have received from you is very definitely on the side of loving
everything about the Kingsbury Classic.
Despite the low numbers (only 53 entries of which 52 came and ran
despite the rain) we still presented trophies to four category winners
in both mens & ladies sections, plus the first three men and first
three ladies. Only one course record was broken on the night - Peel
Road Runners' CHRISTINE NORRIS took the F55 title and broke her own
three-year old category course record by 18 seconds. She nearly didn't
however - Christine actually indicated on her entry form that she was
MALE! The team results were fairly predictable, given the
number of Peel RR members who ran the race. It's a great pity that no
other clubs managed to finish more than TWO athletes, but you can only
beat what is there to beat, so Peel RR took first & second in the mens
team section, and first place in the ladies.
Finally, and most importantly, CAMBA EVENTS would like to thank the
members of PEEL ROAD RUNNERS for their kind offer again this year to
marshal the event for us. It is a course that lends itself to a low
number of marshals (we used to organise it with just the four of us),
but having 10 or 11 Peelers there to help out enables us to put on the
kind of race that we expect from Camba Events. There were a couple of
other helpers on the night whose partners took advantage of our free
place offer - THANKS TO YOU ALL.
Hopefully we will see you again next year - watch this page for
further details. |
