GOODWOOD GALLOP
DESPITE ALL OUR EFFORTS AND CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE R.N.L.I. IT LOOKS INCREASINGLY LIKELY THAT THEY HAVE DECIDED NOT TO CONTINUE WITH THE GOODWOOD GALLOP. DESPITE IT'S MASSIVE SUCCESS OVER IT'S ALL TOO BRIEF THREE YEAR HISTORY, AND THE LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY RAISED BY YOU THE ATHLETES FOR THE RNLI, WE ARE SORRY THAT WE WILL NOT BE BACK AT GOODWOOD RACE CIRCUIT IN 2005. THE LACK OF DECISIONS AND IMPOSSIBLE CONTRACTS THAT CAMBA EVENTS WERE REQUIRED TO SIGN UP TO, SEEM TO HAVE DESTROYED WHAT WAS AN EXCELLENT EVENT.
WE ARE STILL WILLING TO GO AHEAD EVEN AT THIS LATE STAGE, BUT ARE AGAIN WAITING DECISIONS FROM R.N.L.I. ALL THAT'S LEFT ARE THE IMAGES, REPORTS AND RESULTS BELOW. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS.

CAMBA EVENTS apologises for the delay with results of the 2004 Goodwood Gallop. Everything was ready for the printers when we had an e-mail querying a false time & position. Upon investigation it then appeared that 3 runners had competed wearing incorrect numbers and this had not only affected the general results, but also the ladies result. We believe the errors have now been corrected fully, and the final results are available by clicking on the links immediately below. CAMBA EVENTS would particularly like to apologise to GEMMA WEISS of Chichester Runners and JENNY HUGHES of Arena 80 AC who finished 2nd & 3rd instead of 3rd & 4th as originally believed. We are now re-calculating category positions and team positions in order to finalise the results booklet, which we now hope to post out at the weekend. Once again, we do apologise to everybody concerned. |

THE STORY OF THE GOODWOOD GALLOP 2003
The second GOODWOOD
GALLOP was held on a cold but bright Sunday morning at GOODWOOD
ROAD RACING CIRCUIT, Chichester, West Sussex. 194 entered the 10
mile multi-terrain race, slightly down on the 2002 total of 200, which surprised
the organisers somewhat as everybody tells us what a fantastic race this is.
Despite some confusion over the race start time, at 11.00 the athletes gathered
at the start line next to the pits area on the race circuit, and Stormy Sam set
them on their way. By the time the leading runners had reached the first
corner, Havant AC's Tim Watson was already storming ahead of the pack, and this
was confirmed at the end of lap one when Tim crossed the line in 11.56, some 85
seconds ahead of David Boyce in second with Andrew Venus third in 13.34. These
leading positions were to remain unchanged until the finish though the gaps
between the first three gradually stretched as the laps unfolded.
The first lady at the end of lap one was unattached runner Juliet Prowse in
15.57, half a minute ahead of Brighton & Hove's Helen Fellett with Fiona
Hill of Eastleigh third a further half minute behind. These positions
remained as the girls went past the drinks station for the first time on the
multi-terrain outer lap, though Jenny Hughes of Arena 80 AC had pulled up to
just 8 seconds behind third place. Eventually Jenny was to take both Fiona and
Helen to finish in second place, almost six minutes behind the 2003 Champion.
Juliet finished 15th overall in the event.
