REINDEER RUN

MARGAM PARK, nr SWANSEA

We are disappointed to announce that the RNLI have decided NOT to use Camba Events for their 2003 Reindeer Run, despite the success of the administration side of the  2002 race.  We were advised that the admin for the race was going out to tender, but a new company has been appointed for 2003, and Camba Events were not even invited to submit an offer.  This page is maintained to provide a historical link to the 2002 results.

THE STORY OF THE 2002 REINDEER RUN

Everything was set for the first RNLI Reindeer Run at Margam Park, with a huge entry for the race and a high expectation that we would reach our 500 limit on the day. Ultimately we took 519 by utilising blank numbers and re-issuing some of those who were not coming. We finally had to declare the race as full, and on behalf of the RNLI we would like to thank everybody that entered and took part, providing welcome funds for the organisation. As race day dawned, the skies were heavy and the rain poured down. Not the kind of day we had hoped for, but things were to improve as the skies cleared, the sun shone, and but for the gale force wind, conditions were not too bad.

Congratulations to our 2002 Champions who carried off the Reindeer Run trophies in this first year - unattached runner Michael Johnson and Samantha Bretherick from Chiltern Harriers. Well done to all the other runners who turned up on the day, not only raising money for the RNLI by paying their entry fees, but also raising large sums through donations & sponsorship which all goes to help saving lives at sea.

This was the first race promoted by the RNLI in South Wales, and without doubt the glorious setting of Margam Park and the challenging course offers a unique event, which we hope will become a regular annual pre-Christmas festival.  We are aware of problems at this first Reindeer Run, all of which will be addressed before the 2003 event.
