2007 MCAA PERMIT No. WO/07/002
Mar 8 ~ Prize winners have been checked and all were awarded correctly on the day. The ladies team competition actually ended in a tie, with both Shropshire Shufflers and Cobra RC on 55 points. However, SS were awarded the prize as their THIRD finisher came in ahead of Cobra's third finisher.
Mar 4 ~ Race results are done and available now - CLICK HERE
Mar 4 ~ Four of our five ever-presents completed the 2007 race : GARY MASON in 56.28, SUSAN OTTEY in 73.17, MARTIN OTTEY in 82.10 and BILL MARKS in 86.30. Sadly JOAN CLARKE missed out because of the re-scheduling of the race as she was running the Milford 21 to-day. We apologise to Joan, but we now have four who have run every ROC 8 ~ who will be the last one to miss a race ?
Mar 4 ~ Congratulations to our 2000 and 2001 Champion SUSAN HOWARTH who took the Ladies title for the third time in 59.17. Again, we hope Susan will return in 2008 to try to become the first lady to win the ROC 8 FOUR times.
Mar 4 ~ Congratulations to our 2002 and 2006 Champion DAVE MANSBRIDGE who lifted the winner's trophy for the third time in 49.33. This was the slowest winning time so far, confirming the horrendous underfoot conditions. Hopefully Dave will be back in 2008 to try to become the first man to win the ROC 8 FOUR times.
Mar 4 ~ What a horrendous day for a race. From nine o'clock the rain just didn't stop and was torrential most of the time. The course was reported to have been in the worst condition of any ROC 8 over the last eleven years, but luckily the gale force winds didn't materialise. Due to the change of date we lost around 120 entrants, and with the rain obviously putting a few more off, we only had 209 finishers. Thanks for the kind comments - glad you all enjoyed your run/walk around in the mud.
Mar 3 ~ For the first (and final) time ever, there will be very limited places available tomorrow morning for this year's race. However, any on the day entries WILL close at 10.30, so please come very early if you wish to join in on the day, and please bring the right money (£6 for club members and £8 for unattached runners). These places are from those original entrants who were unable to make the new date, and we cannot take any more new entries once those places are used up.
Mar 3 ~ PLEASE - IF YOU ARE RUNNING WITH SOMEONE ELSE's NUMBER, come and let us know the changes at Race HQ before you run. This not only ensures the results are correct and category prizes are correctly awarded, but it also means we know who to contact should anything happen to YOU.
Mar 3 ~ Basic race results will be on our website as soon as possible after the race. If you wish to have a printed set of results which includes the team results, category positions, course and category records etc, please come to race HQ, address an envelope and leave £1 and this will be sent to you within a couple of weeks.
Mar 3 ~ That's it until tomorrow - we look forward to seeing you all again. Do come round to Race HQ and say Hi - we will have old copies of our club magazine for you to browse through, as well as all the usual friendly faces (we are referring to the stuffed animals in the Discovery Centre, not the club members).
Mar 3 ~ Most of the course has now been set up, and will of course be checked in the morning. Thanks to MARTIN CHILDE & COLIN LUCAS for their efforts this afternoon on your behalf.
Mar 3 ~ Latest weather forecast for tomorrow ? Overnight will be clear with temperatures dropping to 2 degrees. Winds will be increasing through the night, reaching a maximum of 25.6 mph by 12 noon. The first rain is now forecast for noon to mid afternoon, so you may stay dry if they are right, but very muddy and blown away.
Mar 3 ~ Less than 24 hours to go, and we have a course report for you. It's muddy ! Er ... VERY muddy.
Mar 2 ~ DON'T FORGET : START TIME IS 11.00 AS ALWAYS
Mar 2 ~ We will be awarding the largest club entry salver to the club who had entered the most runners in the ORIGINAL race ! This is the fairest way, and we do apologise if you don't agree. However, the amount of work that has gone into this re-scheduled race makes it impossible for us to re-calculate this, and in any case the salver is already engraved.
Mar 2 ~ There has been no course report as yet, but it is fairly safe to assume that it will be very wet and muddy (IF the snow has gone !!!!). The weather forecast for the weekend is not good - light sleet is actually forecast for Saturday morning, turning to rain and then dying out in the late afternoon. Saturday night is expected to be clear with temperatures down to 2 degrees. Only Sunday forecast so far is for the afternoon when rain is forecast. Winds are strengthening through the night.
Mar 2 ~ Since last updating the page, we have spent every waking hour trying to contact all 404 original entries to let them know the race is on this coming Sunday, and to find out whether or not they are available to take part on this new date. As of this evening, we have heard from 356 of the original entries which is tremendous. Most of the others have not responded to e-mails or phone messages, so there is not much more that we can do.
Feb 22 ~ We are delighted that both of our 2006 Champions (DAVE MANSBRIDGE and JANE ROWLANDS) have indicated that they are planning to run on March 4th.
Feb 20 ~ We have received a total of 271 responses from the original 404 entrants, advising whether they can participate on March 4th or not. Fortunately, the majority (178) are still able to take part. This does however leave us with 93 places in the race - if you have fellow club members or friends who may be keen to take part now, do let them know. We will take entries up to the number of places that have been vacated. there will however be NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY at this stage.
Feb 19 ~ We receive a revised MCAA permit, showing the new date of the race. Our existing permit still applies, and we have notified MCAA of the change of date.
Feb 18 ~ Revised entry forms are distributed at the Ennstone 7 today.
Feb 16 ~ As we learn of entrants who are unable to take part now, this opens up spaces for anyone else who is keen to take part. Entry forms are available from the e-mail address or phone number below.
Feb 15 ~ It will be of enormous help to us if all entrants who read this can either e-mail or phone us (richardabaker@btinternet.com or 01213584483) to advise whether they can take part on the new date or not.
Feb 14 ~ At an emergency committee meeting tonight, it is agreed to re-schedule this year's ROC 8 for SUNDAY MARCH 4th AT 11.00. It is hoped that every entry into the original race will be contacted by phone or e-mail over the next few days about the change of date. Those unable to make the new date will be refunded. Those who are still able to run will be able to use their original number. All other details remain the same.
Feb 12 ~ Course photos from Sunday afternoon have been added to the FEET IMAGES PAGE.
Feb 12 ~ More e-mails received to-day : "Sorry you had to cancel event but I ran in the forest this morning and you made the right decision without doubt, you would have had injuries to contend with otherwise". STEVE LLOYD ~ "Tough Call Richard but regards to everyone who had the courage and professionalism to do the right thing." GARY JONES ~ "We went out off road Sunday morning and although many areas were thawed out, there were still very many areas in the shade that were still frozen and dangerous, so we think that you made a good call." MIKE SPRASON & TELFORD HARRIERS ~ "Cancelling the race was a hard call. I was driving round Kidderminster/Brum on Saturday and it was amazing how conditions varied within a couple of miles. Some parts were absolutely clear of snow, elsewhere it still lay deep and slushy on side roads and fields. I think you were right to call it off though, if the path through the valley was icy. It wasn't worth the risk of broken ankles." TONY HEWSON
Feb 12 ~ Following the cancellation of yesterday's ROC 8, the club is now looking into the possibility of re-scheduling the race on a date that will not cause too much disruption to the fixtures calendar. Watch this space.
Feb 11 ~ We received the following e-mail from NICK KIMBERLEE : "Just thought you may like to know since I usually run in the Wyre Forest on a Sunday Morning I decided to try the ROC 8 route to see how bad it was. You quite clearly made the right decision to postpone the race since in race conditions the course would be far to dangerous for the following reasons:- 1/. The first 150 yards downhill stretch was icy consequently a single slip by an entrant in a crowded start could have caused many serious injuries. 2/. About 80% of the course was snow covered which could well have turned to ice in parts with the impact of several runners feet. 3/. It was very difficult to see exactly where you were putting your feet in the areas of the run by the streams (which are very uneven) so it would be very easy to fall in these areas. 4/. There were four or five trees which blocked the route."
Feb 11 ~ We received the following e-mail from ANDREW SHEWARD : "Thanks for both the above email and the telephone call. 4 of us did indeed run the course this morning as a training course and without doubt the right decision was made to cancel the event. Although an excellent training run the conditions will have undoubtedly resulted in many twisted ankles at the very least."
Feb 10 ~ A hugely disappointing day for AMAZING FEET RC with the loss of our lead event of the year - everybody is working hard now trying to notify 400 runners and 60 marshals of the cancellation, instead of looking forward to a great day tomorrow. Please hang on to your race numbers for a few days, until we have made a decision on whether or not we re-schedule. This will be included on here as soon as possible. Needless to say, all entry fees will be refunded where necessary
Feb 10 ~ RACE IS OFF ! RACE IS OFF ! RACE IS OFF ! 11.00 am Saturday morning. Club members have been out in the forest this morning, and the race route is still covered by 4 inches of snow, which makes the lower areas of the races by the stream very dangerous. We know the ground is frozen and heavily rutted under the snow, and if runners cannot see beneath the snow where their feet are going, the risk of broken ankles is too great. Also, we are unable to use either Parweld or the Visitor Centre car parks at this time ~ both are lethal ! We do apologise to all runners who were looking forward to this event - watch this space regarding any new date. However, as a club we are not going to step on other races toes by moving to their traditional date
Feb 9 ~ Final totals for the largest club entry are :- SHROPSHIRE SHUFFLERS 20, LUDLOW RUNNERS AND TELFORD HARRIERS 17, STOURBRIDGE RC 14, BLACK PEAR JOGGERS 13, WORCESTER AC 11, MALVERN JOGGERS 9, COBRA RC 8. Again, thank you all
Feb 9 ~ Club members SHAW PYE and SIMON GREGG have been round the course this morning and it is currently covered by 4 inches of snow ! However, professional forecasts are still telling us the weather is going to turn warmer over the weekend, and it is going to rain heavily. We are in constant discussions between us, but at 5.00pm today, THE RACE IS STILL ON
Feb 9 ~ Medals and trophies are received for Sunday's race. We have a problem however, as our suppliers have sent us the wrong medals ! AMAZING FEET RC therefore apologise to all runners in advance - you will get a medal on Sunday, but it isn't the one we ordered, nor is it the one we wanted to give to you. As they only arrived today, there is just no time to change them, sorry !
Feb 8 ~ Club member CRAIG LEWIS has been up to the Wyre Forest Visitor Centre, and sent us a superb photo of Sunday's start line. This is on our homepage for your delight
Feb 8 ~ Here comes the snow !
Feb 7 ~ Race certificates are received ready for Sunday
Feb 7 ~ Despite all you have heard about the pending disaster with severe weather warnings, internet weather sites do not seem to be supporting this view for the weekend. Pitchcare (site for groundsmen and greenkeepers) is forecasting for Bewdley just minus one overnight on Saturday, with temperatures of three maximum on Sunday, cloudy skies with 0.1 mm of rain, but no snow mentioned, while BT's weather information says rain on Saturday with showers on Sunday, highs of 7 and 8 and lows of only 3 (no frost or snow mentioned)
Feb 7 ~ Latest totals for our Largest Club Entry trophy on Sunday read as follows :- SHROPSHIRE SHUFFLERS 19, LUDLOW RUNNERS 17, TELFORD HARRIERS 16, STOURBRIDGE RC 14, BLACK PEAR JOGGERS 13, WORCESTER AC 11, MALVERN JOGGERS 9, COBRA RC 8. Thank you all for your annual support which is appreciated by Amazing Feet RC
Feb 6 ~ All five of our ever-presents who have run every ROC 8 since the first race have entered this year's event, and we are delighted to have them all back
Feb 6 ~ Sadly, our 2005 Champion SIMON LINK of Stourbridge RC has had to pull out of this year's race due to injury. Hope you are fit & well again soon Simon, see you next year !
Feb 5 ~ It was decided at tonight's committee meeting that Sunday's race is DEFINITELY ON, despite threats of minus 20 degrees temperatures and 3 feet of snow at the weekend
Feb 5 ~ The usual request from overworked and harassed race officials : PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR NUMBER TO ANOTHER RUNNER - IF YOU ARE ILL OR INJURED, PLEASE JUST ACCEPT THIS BAD LUCK & CONCENTRATE ON GETTING WELL. RUNNING WITH SOMEBODY ELSE'S NUMBER CAN AFFECT RESULTS & PRIZES AWARDED AFTER THE RACE. IT CAL ALSO HAVE FAR MORE SERIOUS REPERCUSSIONS SHOULD THAT PERSON HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND WE NEED TO CONTACT NEXT OF KIN. PLEASE BE SENSIBLE AND DON'T HAND OVER YOUR NUMBER TO ANYONE ELSE
Feb 5 ~ Another former ROC 8 winner from 2000 and 2001 is in our line-up for Sunday ~ unattached SUSAN HOWARTH
Feb 4 ~ We are delighted that both of our 2006 Champions have accepted our invitation to return and defend their titles : DAVE MANSBRIDGE from Telford AC will wear number 1, while JANE ROWLANDS now of Wye Valley Runners will wear number 2
Feb 3 ~ We still have 14 places left after today's post ~ first come, first served
Jan 26 ~ Previous winners entered for this year's race include 2005 Champion SIMON LINK from Stourbridge RC (race number 3) and the 1997, 1998 and 1999 three times Ladies Champion JAYNE MUMFORD from Coventry Godiva Harriers
Jan 26 ~ 335 entries now for this year's race, still a few places left
Jan 25 ~ The battle for the silver salver which we present to the club with the highest race entry is really on : After to-day's post we had received 17 entries from Shropshire Shufflers, 16 from Telford Harriers and 15 from Ludlow Runners. Next is Black Pear Joggers & Stourbridge RC with 11, Worcester AC with 10 and Malvern Joggers on 8
Jan 25 ~ A couple of our intrepid members have been out training along the half marathon and ROC 8 courses this week - it may not come as much of a surprise to ROC 8 regulars to learn that the course is muddy. In fact, it's very muddy. Seems the Forestry Commission have been clearing trees, and using some heavy vehicles to move them. So the course has been churned up in places, and is very muddy
Jan 23 ~ After to-day's post, we now have 325 confirmed entries. There are still places available, but hurry as we cannot exceed our entry limit
Jan 18 ~ Entries now stand at 280. Don't delay, get those entries sent in now
Jan 15 ~ Numbers and race packs are being sent out from to-day
Jan 12 ~ MCA Permit received for the ROC 8, number is WO/07/002
Jan 8 ~ Entries for this year's ROC 8 currently stand at 185
Jan 5 2007 ~ Race numbers received
Oct 3 ~ Web page for the 2007 ROC 8 launched with entry form available to download from link below.
Oct 3 ~ AMAZING FEET RC are thoroughly delighted that ROC Fencing have agreed to extend their sponsorship of our eight mile multi-terrain event for another year.
