DELEGATION & COACHING
Are you as productive as you would like to be?
Are your staff as committed as they should be?
Do you feel responsible for every little thing that happens at work?
This module concentrates on developing the skills for effective delegation & coaching - a key task for managers in professional firms
The expectation of partners and fee earners in professional firms to achieve more in less time has placed an increasing burden of responsibility on individuals.
Nowadays they need to move beyond being skilled at managing the task themselves, to managing people and teams to perform those tasks. To do this effectively they need to embrace the two key management tasks of Delegation and Coaching
"Delegation is entrusting authority and responsibility to another to complete a clearly defined and agreed task under a manager's supervision, while the manager retains overall responsibility for the success of the work."
"Coaching is the provision of guidance and encouragement to help people learn for themselves by doing the job"
Delegation is not always accompanied by coaching, such as when the individual is already competent. Coaching should always be accompanied by delegation, to let the person learn by doing the task.
Effective coaches are those people who get satisfaction from the success of others and the manager who is a good coach can expect to gain in a number of ways:
