THE
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS COURSE
In addition to the compulsory core,
trainees are required to undertake a minimum of 24
hours of tuition on elective courses.
Such courses fall within the 3 compulsory subject areas:
-
Financial
and business skills
-
Advocacy
and communication skills
-
Ethics
and client responsibilities
Because
nowadays
it is not enough for a lawyer to be technically competent, individuals
need a broad range of additional skills to be successful in their careers
as lawyers. Lawyers who acquire the skills to be effective in these other areas, are highly
valuable assets in their firm.
As
well as practicing law competently, lawyers need to:
-
Manage
staff
-
Manage
work effectively to ensure correct levels of productivity
-
Manage
relationships with clients
-
Win
new work
-
Manage
client satisfaction
-
Present
themselves professionally with authority and gravitas in a variety of
situations.
Many
training managers have recognised the value of personal development
training in the PSC Electives Programme because it means that when
trainees qualify they have started to develop the skills needed to take
them beyond technical competency. In
a market where competition for good lawyers is tough, trainees are more
demanding. They too recognise the
value of personal development training and expect their firm to provide
it.
Ridley
Fleming offers
personal development training for firms who want to run
their PSC programme in house.
Modules
are stand-alone and can be selected according to the trainee’s
requirements.
Our
electives include:
-

-
