Ridley Fleming Training Programmes are designed as a series of ½ day, 1-day and 2- day training events combined with pre course work and follow up coaching.
The modular design of the programmes provides delegates with the opportunity to:
- build up their skills in small manageable "chunks"
- have sufficient time to practice and gain the confidence to use the skills in a live situation.
- select modules according to their existing level of knowledge and skill
All training courses are designed to enable participants:
- to understand and build on current skills
- to learn new skills
- to learn from other participants
- to integrate learning into their jobs
All courses are participative and involve a variety of learning opportunities:
Review of current skills and current contribution to the firm
Input of concepts/theories and models
- Practice in the form of role-plays & case studies with other participants on the course. Linked to practice is objective feedback provided by the trainers and fellow participants.
- Personal action plans to plan specific steps to integrate learning and develop effectiveness in relevant area.
Materials
All modules are tailored to meet the needs of individual clients. This is achieved principally through the customisation of exercises and role-plays.
Included in each module is a series of short exercises to test delegates' understanding of the skills. There will also be a number of longer role-plays to enable participants to apply their skills. These will be either "real case" or role-play scenarios customised to reflect typical situations between the delegates and their clients.
Many lawyers are sceptical about this type of training and gaining their commitment to it can be difficult. To achieve this we recommend working with clients to develop the final content of training courses and to customise the exercises and role-plays, to accurately reflect the work situation of the delegates. This approach speeds up skill transfer and usually helps the most cynical participants to appreciate the relevance of the skills they are learning.
In addition to practical exercises there is a comprehensive set of user-friendly reference material giving a detailed explanation of the concepts covered in the module.
Pre Course Work
Delegates attending some of the modules will be asked to complete pre course work. This consists of reading, practical exercises or preparation of material to use when they attend the course.
Undertaking pre course reading and exercises allows delegates to concentrate on practising their skills during the course.
Coaching
Post course coaching, particularly with Practice Development and the Management Development programmes helps to reinforce skill development and confidence to use the skills learnt. Coaching can be arranged on a one-to-one basis with individual fee earners, or in small groups which ever is most appropriate. The format of the coaching can also be designed according to individual client requirements.
