R/C Racing Yachts
We
are one of the few clubs in the UK with an active fleet of
R36r class radio controlled racing yachts. These boats are ideally
suited to our pond as they can carry the huge sail rigs need for our
sheltered pond. We hold races for this class once a fortnight right
through the year split into summer and winter series competitions. There
is also a single day event for the Woodbridge Cup, which is usually
held in the autumn.
New
for 2001 - The Tactic a new one-design
class of 600 mm long radio controlled yachts. Designed by world champion
Graham Bantock these boats are fast for their size, inexpensive and
easy to build. They are equipped with standard two channel radio which
keeps the cost and complication down. All boats are made from a standard
kit of parts, enabling the newcomer to become competitive rapidly. Over
20 have been bought by club members and racing has started with the
winter series.
Free Sailing Beach Yawls
Our
free sailing fleet are replicas of "Black Joke",a 1920's Southwold
Beach Yawl .
We hold a race series through the summer and have aone day event for
the Cooper cup which is awarded in memory of Judith Cooper, the original
owner of Black Joke
Scale Models
Our
members produce a wide variety of scale models of all periods, from
sailing ships to the latest nuclear submarines. Our sheltered pond with
it all round access is ideal for scale models. As well as operating
them on the pond through the summer many of our members also display
them at exhibitions. Thos of a more competitive nature also take part
in our steering competitions. The Scale Gallery
shows just a few of them.
Fast
electric
The
new "Club 500" class is becoming very popular and
we hold races right through the year. These boats are inexpensive, easy
to build, FAST and above all fun. Which on our pond means the captain
needs very quick reflexes.
See the Fast electric page for details on
the boats and the timetables for race dates.
Technical Talks
Once again members will be sharing their expertise on a variety of
subjects at the Martlesham Heath Pavilion through the winter months.
See Technical talks for details.
