Woodbridge Model Boat Club

Woodbridge Regatta 6th August 2000

general view of standdisplayA great days boating blessed with good weather, there was an excellent turn out with 60 boats on display, some from as far afield as Shrewsbury. The fine weather enabled us to move the static exhibition to the pondside. Ian Alcock kept the crown amused and informed with his commentary.

The light winds were ideal for the steam boats but less so for the sailing yachts. Despite this we had six R36's which put on some demonstration races. The Tactic fleet made its first appearance with the two Ian's boats following the R36's round.

The "Club 500" fast electric racing got off to a great start with lots of action and some spills, which was a great crown pleaser. These simple, inexpensive boats make a great introduction to the sport of radio control model power boat racing. To liven things up Ian joined in with his "Red Baron" model - a much more high tech machine with its surface piercing prop.
It's seriously quick, and he did well to keep up with it in the rather cramped conditions

After all the mayhem the steam powered scale models put on a much more dignified display. These included :

Ralph's "Lady Dora":     Kelvin's Gunboat:kelvins gun boat

Some of the other scale models on the day included:

Brian's "Brave Borderer" MTB: Brave borderer     Ian's Wyeforce Tug:Wyeforce tug

tiger subOne of the more unusual models was Ray's tiger submarine, this tore round the pond at great speed, leaping out of the water like a dolphin. He also brought his huge USS Ohio nuclear attack submarine, BIG, black, sinister and very difficult to photograph.

With all these models in operation it got crowded at times.
