R36r - Radio controlled racing yachtsWe are one of the few clubs in the UK with an active fleet of R36r radio control sailing yachts. We hold summer and winter series races for this class with a club trophy awarded for each. In the autumn we compete for the Woodbridge Cup. This class is ideally suited to this pond as the rules allow us to carry very large rigs to make the most of the light winds that are the norm at our pond. What is R36r ?This is a class of radio controlled sailing boat which is designed for operation in restricted waters. It is unique to the UK and governed by the MYA (Model Yachting Association). This class has been in existence for many years, but has been eclipsed recently by the new 1 metre class. However, unlike the 1 metre class, the rules are straightforward and you can design your own boat and experiment with new ideas. The limited stability makes these yachts exciting to sail, rather than simply just steering them round the course. The exclusion of exotic materials keeps the costs within bounds and the boats can remain competitive for many years. The basic rules (see MYA for full class rules)
