The Barley

Changed it's name from the Barley Mow. Popular especially with younger drinkers. Before the ban it was really smoky. Only one bland real ale. Even the pork scratchings were ordinary. Pool table. Car park. Food served. Situated on Stafford Street. Tel - 01952 820810. Visited Jan 1999

Bridge Inn

Re-opened late 2004. The beer tasting team have not been back since the re-opening - but The Bridge Inn used to be a compact local with several real ales served in a decidedly terracotta setting. Basic interior with original traditional floorboards. Food served. Awarded Cask Marque in July 2005. Situated on High Street. Visited Aug 2001

Greene King Abbot Ale
Readers comments - Currently serving 3 cask ales at any one time varying in strength and taste - everything from Black Sheep to Abbot Ale - and all kept very well - definitely worth a visit! Can get very busy on weekend nights - Mar 2007

Honeysuckle Inn

Banks's pub. The beer is a bit ordinary but this is a tidy pub with a splendid original iron range in the lounge. There is a bar as well. Situated on Beaumaris Street. Visited Mar 2003

Readers comment -  Pub changed hands in Feb 2003 and if you visit again in the future I'm sure the results will be better than the last time!
Now with new licensee and cellarman, the real ales are still of the same quality but now include Deuchars IPA as a permanent fixture and 1 guest ale which is changed weekly, to include the old favourites like Speckled Hen, Spitfire and Bombardier - Mar 2007

New Inn

Freehouse. The exterior gives little clue to the fine selection of real ales on offer. Popular multi-roomed local just outside the town centre - situated on Stafford Street. Loads of brasses on the walls and on the beams and everywhere. Visited Mar 2003

Railway Tavern

Freehouse. What is it with Newport pubs - most seem to be filled with noisy customers who enjoy smoking - and this one is no different. Pool table and several real ales are available. Special offers on the Banks's Bitter. The Brains SDA was a nice temperature but disappointingly fizzy. Situated on Upper Bar. Tel - 01952 811521. Visited June 2002
