Shrewsbury Hotel

Wetherspoons pub. Since our last visit the selection of real ales seems to have been reduced - but they are still at the most sensible prices in Shropshire. Food served including Frisbee sized barm cakes and huge bowls of chips. Lively meeting place - and drinkers spill outside onto the terrace. It's also a Wetherlodge so accommodation is available. Music free so you can have a decent conversation. And now with a family area equipped with bookcases if you fancy a read. Formerly called The Britannia. Situated near the Welsh Bridge on Bridge Place at the end of Smithfield Road. Tel - 01743 231246. Visited Apr 2008

Steam Wagon

Large popular pub with a big pool room. Laid out with cubicles down one side it's quite comfy inside. Quite a nice pint of Tetleys Bitter, unusual really because Tetleys can often be a bit bland - anyway it was above average. Food served. Collection of old Shrewsbury photos. And the sign outside says John Barras - but we don't know why. Large car park.  Situated on Mount Pleasant Road in Harlescott. Tel - 01743 353688. Visited Apr 2008

Two Henrys

Hardy & Hansons Pub. Built in 2005, and opened in December. Large menu and dining areas, and a kids play area make this a family friendly pub. The Greene King IPA was disappointing. Situated just north of Shrewsbury at the junction of the A49/ A51. Visited Mar 2008
