Applying Car Textures - Tutorial
|
TXD Tool | |
![]() | This is the TXD Tool, it is used to import and export car textures. Before we start this tuorial, you will need to download and install this tool. |
| Once you have the tool installed, run it and select Open... | |
![]() | Find the Models folder (shown) which is located under your GTAIII folder and click on it. |
![]() |
Locate the file "txd.img" It is a very good idea to make a BACKUP of this file using Explorer before you go any further. Once you have done that, click on it and then click "Open" |
![]() |
A list of objects should then appear in the window on the left, this will contain all the cars. The window on the right is a list of textures that correspond to the object selected on the left and should match the texture names you have downloaded (Don't worry if some are missing from your download, it just means I haven't changed them). |
| To import and use a texture you have downloaded... | |

Select the car you want to change from the list on the left, then LEFT CLICK the texture you want to import in the list on the right to highlight it. RIGHT click the texture and from the drop down box select "Import" and then "Texture". IMPORTANT: Don't mess with the Alphas unless you know what you are doing. None of my downloads contain Alphas. |
| Find your downloaded and unzipped textures... | |
![]() | Select the file you want to import and click "Open" |
![]() | Congratulations, you now have a new look car body, but what about the wheels.... |

These are imported in exactly the same way except you need to open "MISC.TXD" instead of "TXD.IMG" Import the textures as you did above. |
