Zingel streber

Perch family
Percidae

This fish looks very much like Z. zingel but it is smaller and is characterised by its slender tapering body. It also lives in the river Danube and some of its tributaries. It is active after dark and mainly during the night when it looks for food. Fishing for it is most often successful at this time and it is usually caught when fishing for other fishes. By and large it remains on the bottom, in the relatively strong and deep currents, where it also breeds.

This species has an underdeveloped air-bladder and progress along the bottom in characteristic darting movements. It has no economic or sporting value.
