Painting of LV18 is now well under way; the starboard side has now been completed and the remainder of the vessel should be completed by mid July, weather permitting.
Painting the hull
The lifeboats have now been tested
John Platt (yellow shirt) visited the ship on Friday 25th June and is writing an article for the next edition of "Leading Lights"a magazine devoted to lightships. He is seen here checking a navigational buoy.
Clive turns his talents to fixing the ship's fresh water pump, the water taps in the galley and wash rooms are now working and the showers have been repaired. Water can also now be pumped into the engine room cooling tanks; these previously had to be filled by hand. The hot water boiler is not working at present, however repairs are planned.
We access LV18 via the Harwich-Felixtowe-Shotley ferry, the picture above shows operator Chris Spraggons talking to Tony O'Neil and Colin Lamb.

The one piece of negative news to report is that during the evening of Wednesday June 23rd intruders boarded the vessel and gained entry by forcing open one of the central hatches. Finding nothing of value they proceeded to smash every interior light fitting (48 in all) and ransack the master's cabin and accommodation. Thankfully, that is the only damage that they did. Repairs have been carried out and security on board has been tightened.
On July 5th LV18 will be moved to the Trinity House pier in Harwich so that further work can be carried out on the vessel. Whilst alongside, a team of riggers will inspect the front mast and erect a lattice tower on the heli-deck in preparation for the antenna system which is currently under construction.
