Morgan news 2 - 17th August 2001.

Details of the first visit are here...

On a second visit to the Morgan Factory on August 10th, I found my car had gone into the paint shop, where there is a strict No Visitors rule. Still, it was nice to have a quick stroll round the factory, looking at other people's cars in build.

I returned on 17th August to see how much further the car had progressed.

Every trip to the Morgan factory has started in the Despatch area, where new cars are held prior to despatch to customers.

On the wall hangs a sort of tapestry thing - not sure how else to describe it...!

... but it always makes me smile whenever I see it!

Anyway, back to the plot... Wandered round the factory to hunt down my car, and found it just at the start of the trimming process.

Found a couple of Morgan employees busily fitting all sorts of bits and pieces to the interior of the car. The guy on the left was fitting trim to the passenger door, while the guy stood in the car was fitting trim to the wheel arches. The wings have been removed from the car, and are hung in a rack waiting to be re-fitted.

Further back in the shot, you can see the next stage of the construction where the door catches are fitted (man in blue shirt crouched in silver car)

As you can see above, much of the pipework under the bonnet has yet to be connected. The red thing on the centre of the engine is the high-level brake light which will fit above the spare wheel, and the build ticket is still attached on the engine.

Later on in the day, we returned to see that the trimming progress had continued a little, and one of the trimmers was taking a photgraph for the build record. He offered me the chance to sit in the car for one of the build record photos, and, as you can see, I was quite delighted at the prospect.

By the end of the week, the car should be out of the trim shop, and road tested. Our final visit to the factory is planned for Tuesday 28th August, when the car should be in despatch.

With thanks AGAIN to all at the Morgan factory for their co-operation during our visit.
