Courses and Information
GOLF INFORMATION.
The
following information may be of assistance if you are contemplating one or two
rounds of golf whilst in Florida.
- Most courses
insist on collared shirts and soft spikes as part of their dress code.
Tailored shorts are acceptable, in fact, nearly everyone wears them. If
you do not have golf shoes, many courses allow trainers to be worn. (But check
with the pro first).
- Handicap
certificates are not normally required.
- It is possible to
pre – book tee times, but this may be only 5 – 7 days in advance.
- Prices on all
courses naturally vary but each course has its own price range depending
on the time of year and time of day you decide to play. Winter is a
popular time for golf in Florida and therefore slightly more expensive.
(Due to North Americans flying south for golf holidays). Savings on golf
fees can be made by playing at ‘Twilight’ times.(normally after 2p.m.). It
is also possible to obtain discount vouchers in The Golfers Guide, a free
handbook available in golf shops like Edwin Watts and Special Golf Tee.
The prices quoted at golf courses invariably include the hire of a
motorised buggy – Americans do not walk on golf courses. If you are
prepared to drive 45 minutes or so from the Disney area, the quality of
the courses are very good but the prices are considerably cheaper than
those in the Disney area.
- Most golf courses
hire golf clubs from about $15
- $20 a day. The
standard of the clubs is usually relative to the standard and price of the
course. (Disney courses are expensive but you get Callaway clubs).
Finally, why not telephone the golf club in advance of your holiday to obtain the information relating to that golf club. The pros. are very friendly, accommodating and helpful.

The
above prices were applicable to March - the golfer's high season. At other
times of the year, the prices can be considerably cheaper - especially if you
use the discount coupons found in various books / magazines.
There
is also a small 9 hole course called Polo
Park Tel. No.863 424 3341 which is located about 3 minutes from the villa.
The price is about $20.
I
have played all of the above courses and would recommend any of them. In my
opinion, the best value is Oakwood. It’s a beautiful course and is exceptional
value. If you decide on Falcons Fire, the buggies have an on board computer,
which tells you how far from the green you are and where the sand traps and
water hazards are. Really posh! Oh. You also have a gallon of iced water and
cups included on the buggy.
Some
of the above courses have web sites. In addition to the ones mentioned above,
there are numerous other good quality courses within 30 – 45 minutes of the
villa.
