The following shows an example of a long furnace ZONE model used to simulate a typical continuous steel reheating furnace. The model predicts the steel top, centre and bottom temperatures as it travels along the hearth (see graph). By changing the firing pattern, it is possible to improve both fuel efficiency and to reduce scale formation on the steel, without compromising the quality (uniformity) of heating.
