A ZONE model is constructed by
dividing the furnace chamber into isothermal surface and gas zones.
Interchange ('view') factors are calculated for every pair of zones, and
thermal radiation heat balances are formulated and solved by numerical
algorithms. The radiation equations can include terms for thermal convection
and conduction and heat release due to combustion and inflow and outflow of
combustion products. Key features are:
 |
ability to handle complex geometries
(shading) |
 |
handles
non-grey gas behaviour |
 |
can simulate transient processes easily |
 |
takes rigorous account of absorption,
emission and reflection of radiation at surfaces |
