There are a number of reasons why
this leaflet, typical of many produced by the SVNFL, would be ineffective.
For example:
- To communicate effectively with
enemy soldiers the propagandist must choose the wording and phraseology
his target would use, adopting a soldier-to-soldier approach. Although
this leaflet is reasonably correct grammatically - many early Communist
leaflets contained crude and mis-spelled English - it is difficult to see
how ordinary soldiers could relate to words such as "defamed",
"impasse" and "venturing";
- Equating the VC with the South
Vietnamese People could lead to confusion in the soldier's mind;
- The four demands, which are very
typical of this type of leaflet, are hopelessly unrealistic, whether to
openly disobey orders, try to influence the US Government or express support
for the VC.
