This leaflet (which unfortunately has not reproduced very clearly) is typical of those quoting "statements" from captured or deserted GIs. Certain phrases in the statements such as "lenient and humane" appear too often to be acceptable as the spontaneous and freely chosen words of an American soldier. In some leaflets this phrase can also be seen in the main body of text written by the Communists themselves! The notion of the NFL providing "delicate food" seems bizarre! Doubts about the genuineness of the message would destroy any impact such a leaflet might possibly have on the enemy. After having "crossed over", Nolan was known to have taken a Vietnamese wife and was not, as was customary, repatriated after making the pro-VC statement. So he can not be considered typical of American soldiers in the hands of the Communists.
