The Beginning
The concept of Absolutely Fabulous was founded on the idea of the 'Mother and Daughter' sketch done by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders . Transmitted originally in April of 1990, it wasn't long after when opportunity knocked and Jennifer was well on the way of developing 'Absolutely Fabulous'.
Set in the bedroom of her daughter, (Dawn), Mother(Jennifer) doesn't let a second go by without being the constant center of attention. The Rolex was not to be a borrowed item, and the university is not well known amongst Mothers peers. This makes for a rather upset and overly dramatic Mother.
The characters and the sketch soon developed into 'Absolutely Fabulous' Only this time the daughter was played by Julia Sawalha, as Saffron, and the mother was still the role of Jennifer, as Edina.
