V8 Stock Cars - British Championship (17 cars) Drivers Racing:
Results: British Championship (17 cars): 99, 23, 42, 815, 4, 324, 261, 98, 2, 36. Heat 1 (15 cars): 99, 72, 42, 4, 324, 98, 261, 89, 45, 117. Heat 2 (15 cars): 99, 72, 23, 98, 4, 89, 85, 42, 261, nof. The British Championship was run first, with the grid determined by a draw which placed 261 Simon Hogg and 42 Pete Blomfield on the front row, with 89 Bryan Scott and 23 Lee Pearce on row 2, while 99 Peter Scott Jnr was towards the back of the line-up. 42 Blomfield shot into the lead, as four cars tangled on turn 4. 99 Scott was up to fourth after just 2 laps, and had overhauled Blomfield for the lead after around 5 laps. 72 Colin Goodswen shoved 23 Pearce wide for third, as 98 Peter Scott spun on turn 4. 89 Scott then spun on turn 4, causing 45 Robert Sellar to also spin as he took avoiding action, while 72 Goodswen reeled in 42 Blomfield, who was being hindered by the backmarking 98 Scott. The flag dropped on 99 Scott, as Goodswen dished out a last bend hit to Blomfield, only for both of them to spin out, allowing 23 Pearce to go through for second, 42 Blomfield recovering to claim third. The first heat was headed by 261 Hogg, as a turn 3 shunt caused 85 Colin Moss to spin, with 23 Pearce being forced round his outside and into the fence. 72 Goodswen overhauled Hogg for the lead, with 99 Scott right behind. 117 Billy Chance T-boned 815 Bradley Moss off turn 4, before 2 Rob Beale spun on the back straight, with the yellow flags coming out to check on Chance and Moss. 72 Goodswen was soon passed by 99 Scott on the restart, and he went on for his second win of the day. 89 Scott spun early in the second heat, before 45 Sellar went hard into the turn 3 fence with 42 Blomfield. The race was halted, with 45 Sellar unfortunately requiring the ambulance with a hurt shoulder. 261 Hogg led the restart, before he was challenged by 815 Moss, with 72 Goodswen then going though to take over. A big shunt on turn 3 saw 117 Chance spin, with 815 Moss running into him. 99 Scott passed Goodswen for the lead, as 521 Alan Gray spun on the home straight, where he was hit by 2 Beale, as 99 Scott made it a hattrick of wins. Rebels - British Grand Prix (24 cars – points from heats determine line-up for British Grand Prix) Drivers Racing:
Results: Heat 1 (24 cars): 23, 783, 35, 3, 17, 25, 67, 2, 15, 28. Heat 2 (20 cars): 23, 80, 744, 17, 269, 783, 35, 8, 15, 3. (Note: Amended result to that announced – 744, 783 and 35 inserted) British Grand Prix (22 cars): 23, 2, 119, 80, 3, 17, 28, 15, 25, 269. GN (20 cars): 25, 744, 2, 783, 17, 3, 119, 67, 35, 8. Heat 1 started with 80 Keith Murphy spinning on turn 2, before 491 Kevin Hawes, 23 Mark Rodgers and 3 Darren Clark got caught up in a pile up on turn 4, leaving Hawes stranded on the home straight with his front wheel hanging off. The race was halted, with 783 Stephen Thatcher heading the restart. 23 Rodgers was storming round the track and soon came through to take over the lead. 15 Eric Hayden hooked up with 67 Andy Passey down the back straight to pull a wheelie, as 999 Neil Clayton spun on turn 4. 35 Stuart Moss clambered over 316 James Auld on turn 2, as 470 David Vaughan challenged 269 Will Brown. Brown came back to put in the bumper into the pit bend, only for the pair to tangle, with Brown rolling all the way over on turn 4, as 23 Rodgers took the win. 35 Moss led heat 2 away, as 262 Terry Hudspeth clashed with 786 John Hoole on turn 4 to wheelie up his side for a stoppage. 23 Rodgers soon overhauled 35 Moss for the lead on the restart, as 17 Lee Cooke stuffed 269 Brown into 8 Dave Morley, Morley hitting the turn 1 fence. 2 Tony McCarthy rode up 67 Passey’s side round turn 4, before 12 Mike Silver shed a wheel to cause a stoppage. 23 Rodgers was away on the restart, as 67 Passey lost a number of places due to a flat tyre, Rodgers going on for his second win of the afternoon. The draw for the British Grand Prix decided the top point scorers should start at the back, the line-up for this race being unusual with a single line start. 491 Hawes was right at the front and led the field round, only to have 119 Kevin Wilton immediately pass him. 491 Hawes and 470 Vaughan both spun on turn 4, as 119 Wilton opened up a gap over the chasing pack. 23 Rodgers was again flying round the track with good use of his front bumper, as 2 McCarthy started reeling in 119 Wilton . 23 Rodgers got up to third, and set about catching the front pair. With a couple of laps to run, he passed 2 McCarthy, before delivering a perfectly timed last bend hit on 119 Wilton to take the win and the title. Not only that, but this was Rodgers’ seventh consecutive race win, having taken all four races at the previous week’s Buxton meeting, a Rebels record. The Grand National wrapped up proceedings, with 3 Clark making sure 23 Rodgers did not take another win with a big lunge into turn 3 sending Rodgers into the fence and spinning round. Rodgers got going again, as 25 Anthony Masters passed early leader 35 Moss. 269 Brown smacked the home straight fence to tangle with 28 Derek Hawes, as 35 Moss rode up the side of 67 Passey, with 25 Masters going on to take the flag. A pile up on the home straight cleared, before 303 Peter Drummond was spun and lost his front wheel and suspension, causing a stoppage. 716 David Ley went fencebound on turn 4 on the restart, before 20 Roger Wilko spun 569 John Appleton on the back straight, sending the latter into a rollover onto the infield. Another pile up, this time on turn 4 claimed much of the remaining field, with 845 Dean Rook getting tipped up. 20 Wilko took the flag, but the win was awarded to 436 Robert Cole after a check of the lap sheets. 803 Thomas Clark went headlong into the turn 1 fence as heat 2 got underway, before 492 Charles Browne fenced 578 Paul Jeffries, also on turn 1. 130 Daniel Cook spun exiting turn 2, where 716 Ley was spun hard into him, and the pair remained there for the rest of the race causing a chicane. 270 Kenton was further jacked before taking 124 Colin McAllister into the fence on turn 2. 20 Wilko was reeling in the leading 633 Gary Cole, but the laps ran out and Cole took the chequered. The Final saw 468 Colin Quinnell fence 723 Michael Bennett on turn 1, before dishing out a blitz to 270 Kenton further round the bend. 723 Bennett slammed into reverse to crash into Quinnell as the yellow flags came out for a loose wheel. 872 Chad Potts was fenced on the restart, before 758 Greg Stevens fenced 757 Michael Turner on the pit bend. 557 Mike Turner sought revenge by weighing into 758 Stevens, with 436 Cole crashing into 557 Turner. 633 Cole hit 112 Pete Stevens off turn 4, as 468 Quinnell attacked the fenced 557 Turner on turn 2. 112 Stevens hooked out 803 Clark on the back straight, sending him into the fence, as 25 Reece Priestley crashed into 468 Quinnell. 633 Cole hooked out 25 Priestley in the latter stages, as 426 Mark Pope picked up the win. A good turnout, with heat 1 led by 68 Ben Andrews. 5 Eric Walker overhauled Andrews, before 02 George Spooner was squeezed into the fence exiting turn 4 as 183 Ryan Jordan surged through. Spooner was unlucky to catch a join in the fence to wreck his car, but he was able to pull onto the infield. 183 Jordan went round the outside of the front runners in the closing stages to take the win. 3 Scott Russell suffered an early spin in heat 2, as 380 Lee Hopkins led the field round. 147 Angus Gough and 68 Andrews then tangled exiting turn 2, with Andrews collecting the fence hard, while Gough bounced off into the middle of the track. 614 Liam Hide collected him broadside to get lifted into the air as those behind crashed in, leaving 45 Jordan Wainwright jacked. The race was halted with a depleted field for the restart, with 5 Walker heading them round. 380 Hopkins challenged, but made contact, and picked up a flat, before 301 Thomas Froggatt passed Walker for the lead. 183 Jordan then challenged round the outside, with 5 Walker driving hard into turn 1 to clip Jordan and send him wide. Jordan regained control, and then got round 301 Froggatt’s outside over the remaining distance for his second win of the day. 618 Stephen Hide spun early in the Final, as 380 Hopkins overhauled 5 Walker for the lead. 301 Froggatt clipped 3 Russell to spin him on turn 3, as 183 Jordan again made up ground round the outside before tangling with brother 182 Lee Jordan to get delayed. 380 Hopkins was never headed to take the chequered. The Stars of Tomorrow for the white and yellow grades was headed by 330 Graham Wagstaff, as 47 Tom Hamar was bundled into the turn 4 marker tyres. 307 Warwick had a good battle with 446 Joe Booth, and was leant into the back straight fence. 47 Hamar was spun into the fence on turn 3, as 105 Chris Bonner took over the lead. 192 Dennis bounced off the fence to understeer into 446 Booth, as 105 Bonner went on for the win. The first heat saw 307 Warwick slow to get going, causing the cars to bunch up behind, with 441 John Lawn riding over 330 Wagstaff’s back wheel, the pair of them going fencebound on turn 1. 308 Steve Malkin Jnr was spun by 105 Bonner, as 231 Mark Peters relieved 416 Dave Muckian of the lead. 16 Matt Newson was flying round, and shoved his way through the field to soon pass 231 Peters. 390 Stuart Smith Jnr spun 307 Warwick on turn 3, before 337 Dave Willis put in the bumper on 390 Smith and then 2 Paul Harrison. 390 Smith passed 259 Paul Hines on the inside to move into second, but 16 Newson was not to be caught and took the flag. 257 Timmy Aldridge soon led heat 2, as 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr and 53 John Lund tangled on turn 4, with Wainman spinning. 11 Neil Scriven collected a marker tyre to wheelie, as 4 Dan Johnson made good progress through the field. 55 Craig Finnikin briefly took over the lead, before he was overhauled by 391 Andy Smith, the World Champion going on for the win. 47 Hamar spun into the marker tyres early in the consolation, as 307 Warwick and 12 Michael Scriven tangled to hit the fence on turn 2. 97 Murray Harrison came through quickly for the lead, as 515 Wainman made steady progress before getting delayed in a turn 2 tangle, and then loosing further time after running into the spun 446 Booth. 97 Harrison took the chequered, as 188 Mike Kingston went for a last bend hit on 441 Lawn for the minor places, the pair tangling to end in the turn 4 fence with neither finishing. 54 Hayley Parkinson set the pace in the early stages of the Final, as 259 Hines spun on turn 4 to take a T-bone. 515 Wainman had a rough ride in the pack, and kept getting bundled wide, as 16 Newson again came through the places and took over the lead around half distance. 515 Wainman pulled onto the infield, as 390 Smith, 391 Smith and 84 Tom Harris had a close battle. 21 Mark Gilbank and 2 Harrison also traded hits, as 16 Newson claimed his second win of the evening, while 391 Smith gave his brother a successful last bend hit for fourth. The National started with 91 Tony Smith and 4 Johnson tangling to end on the infield, as a turn 1 pile up cleared. 259 Hines and 446 Booth were bundled into the home straight fence, before 47 Hamar was sent spinning into the stationary 91 Smith car, bringing out the yellows to check on Smith. The restart was led by 105 Bonner, as 13 Andy Ford and 136 Steve Jacklin tangled to collect the fence. 337 Willis then buried 4 Johnson into Jacklin, causing another stoppage. 97 Harrison took the lead on the restart, before 105 Bonner put in the bumper to take Harrison round on turn 3. A turn 4 pile up then involved 16 Newson, 2 Harrison, 390 Smith and 288 Panton, with the latter left stranded to bring out the yellow flags once again. 259 Hines headed the restart, as the backmarking 16 Newson bumpered second placed 515 Wainman, with 55 Finnikin also putting in the bumper. Wainman went wide, but got going again and sent 16 Newson fencewards, as 391 Smith moved into second. Smith went for a last bend lunge at 259 Hines, but was too far back to make contact, with Hines taking the flag, as 11 Scriven T-boned and hooked up with 97 Harrison on the closing lap. A low turnout of cars, especially taking into account the attendance of three long distance travellers in Scotsman 67 Frankie Cunningham, German 303 Frank Loeff and Irishman 991 Andy Stewart. The Stars of Tomorrow race started with 305 Nigel Parker and 390 Leyton Hubbert collecting the fence on turn 1, as 317 Dwayne Powell collected the marker tyres on turn 3. Powell was then collected by the pack, ripping out a large hole in the passenger side of his car. The race was then halted for debris on the track, with a good scrap for the lead on the restart between 190 John Wagstaff, 754 Eamon Howden and 390 Hubbert, with 305 Parker soon joining the battle. Eventually, 390 Hubbert and 305 Parker made the break, as 754 Howden hooked out 557 John Banwell for third. The track was again heavily watered for the Final, causing the drivers to take a very wide line round the bends to scrape round against the fence. 570 Venni set the pace, as 131 Timmy Barnes spun 67 Cunningham. Cunningham was then hit and spun by 312 Neil Payne, as 512 Barnett sent 390 Hubbert and 490 Ian Jarman fencewards on turn 1. A good battle for third place developed between 499 Aldous, 131 Barnes, 115 Scott Aldridge and 219 Grief, with Barnes putting in the bumper to gain three places in one go. 149 Sampson overhauled 570 Venni to take his second win of the evening. A big field of Superstox meant a two-thirds format for the heats, with 314 Jason Barraclough setting the pace in the first heat. 376 Steven Jackson spun on turn 3, with 146 Scott Morgan going into the fence nearby. 114 Eddie Edmonds spun exiting turn 4, where he was T-boned by 21 Sean Smith. 116 John Smith chased down 314 Barraclough and passed him just after half distance. 136 Pip Williams spun on the exit of turn 4, as 482 Jason Cooper shoved past placemen 51 Colin Aylward, 161 Billy Smith and 151 Nick Smith in the latter stages for third, as 116 Smith took the win. Heat 2 kicked off with a big shunt into turn 1, with 22 Mark Kelman riding over 69 Shaun Brooker, with 416 Mark Smith shoving Kelman. 95 John Saunders spun on turn 1 and was hit round by the pack, before 403 David Smith lost both fin plates off his wing, causing a stoppage. 171 Adrian Robinson headed the restart, before being overhauled by 482 Cooper, who went on for the flag. 233 Ben Munford found the fence on turn 1 early in heat 3, as 69 Brooker bumpered 22 Kelman into 118 Ross Eaton, the latter hitting the fence. 95 Saunders then shed a finplate to cause a stoppage, with 393 Dean Hummerstone leading the restart. 59 Stephen Hamilton spun on turn 4 to cause a three car tangle, as 393 Hummerstone maintained his lead to the flag. Rain for the Final made the track slippery, with a big turn 1 pile up at the start as a number of cars visited the fence, causing a stoppage. The restart saw 41 Lisa Kerry lead from 483 Sarah Cooper, as 403 Smith spun into the fence on turn 1. 51 Aylward made good progress through the field, followed by 482 Cooper and 376 Jackson. 51 Aylward overhauled 41 Kerry for the lead, Kerry then spinning on turn 4 to loose a number of places. 482 Cooper tried to make up the deficit over the last few laps, but 51 Aylward was not going to be caught and claimed victory. 2L Stock Cars - Southern Championship – 23 Drivers Racing:
Results: Heat 1 (23 cars): 894, 618, 116, 317, 7, 298, 305, 245, 158, 486 Heat 2 (21 cars): 41, 29, 522, 194, 158, 116, 305, 7, 120, 556 Southern Championship (21 cars): 194, 7, 29, 245, 305, 158, 522, 41, 167, 120 Heat 1 started in dramatic fashion with a big push into turn 3 sending 31 Iain Amos into the armco. Amos bounced up onto two wheels and looked as if he would come back down onto all fours, but the pack shoved him round the bend and he rode the fence before going over onto his roof. He was clipped by the passing 352 Keith Simmons, before getting collected in the back of the roof by 120 Craig Rose and 618 Freddie Kinsella. The red flags came out, with Amos emerging unscathed, although his Sierra stock car now looked more like a pick-up with the roof squashed down at the back. There was plenty of spinning on the restart, with 556 Phil Hampton going round on the pit bend, before 505 Martyn Bell did likewise to take a T-bone from 29 George Morphey. 486 Bobby Polley went into the fence on turn 3 and briefly rode the armco before coming back down onto all fours, as 194 Steve Anscombe (who was also racing in the Bangers) dished out a big hit to 29 Morphey, sending him into 556 Hampton. 298 Ian Elms spun on turn 3, as 894 Mark Almeida led for most of the race to take the win. 317 Mark Sanders nearly spun 116 Diggy Smith on the last bend in the battle for third. Heat 2 was a dusty affair with 7 Colin Farley getting spun in the first bend shove. 350 Stuart Olding was broadsided into the armco, as 41 Joe Parker took up the running. 116 Smith gave 158 Shane Davies (another having a busy day by also competing in the Bangers) a big hit on the last bend, as 41 Parker took the chequered. The Southern Championship saw the grid determined by a draw in the pits, which put 120 Rose and 245 Jack France on the front row, with 522 Mark Watson only on row 2. A chaotic start saw a number of spins, as 116 Smith stuffed 167 James Morris into the pit gate. 7 Farley spun on the back straight, as 120 Rose set the pace. 894 Almeida hooked out 298 Elms, only for 116 Smith to send him into the fence catching a piece of armco and ramming it down behind the next section along. 894 Almeida backed off into Smith, only for Smith to ram him as he tried to get going again. The race was halted with the fence in need of repair, and the fence crew did a great job, having to change 3 sections of armco. After this lengthy, but necessary delay, the race was restarted, with 120 Rose holding off 194 Anscombe for the lead, before Anscombe made his passing manoeuvre. 7 Farley gave chase, and battled with Anscombe for the lead, with the places changing. 522 Watson was fenced on turn 4, as 505 Bell spun to take a clobbering from the traffic. 194 Anscombe eventually got away from 7 Farley and went on to take the title, leaving 305 Billy Wood, 522 Watson and 158 Davies to scrap over the minor places. |
