H R BROWN ART AWARD 2012

The Rose Society of Northern Ireland in association with the Art Award
will offer prizes in 2012 for the best paintings in any medium,
in which the Rose in any of its forms is predominant.

Subject to the discretion of the judge/s (who may recommend withholding
 any or all the prizes if a standard they deem worthy is not achieved)
there will be four awards in the competition.

The first prize will be £350 and the winner will hold for one year
a special perpetual Trophy kindly presented by Belfast City Council.

A second prize of £250, a third of £150 and one Highly Commended
 award (with no monetary value) will also be offered.

There are no regional or professional restrictions on entrants but the
first prizewinner in 2011 shall not be considered for an award in 2012.
Entries of paintings on boards are acceptable provided they also have
 provision for hanging.  Prints are not eligible for this competition.

Entries will be exhibited in the Higgin Gallery, Malone House, Belfast
under the conditions applying to the Gallery and available on request.
Other conditions applying specially to the Art Award are set out below.
Entry forms must be returned to the address on the form and NOT to
Malone House.  There is an entry fee of £5 per exhibit.


Dates for this year's competition:

Entry forms should be lodged by Thursday 30th August.

Intake of exhibits - Sunday 2nd September from 2pm to 4pm at Malone House.

The prizes will be presented at a meeting of the Rose Society on
Wednesday 12th September at 7.30pm in Malone House. 
This meeting is open to all exhibitors and their friends.

The exhibition at Malone House will be open to the public from
Tuesday 4th September to Saturday 29th September at noon.

Collection of work - Sunday 30th September from 2pm - 4pm.


RULES OF ENTRY

1. Entries are limited to three per artist and should have been
completed within two years of 1st September 2012.

2.  The first prizewinner in 2011 may exhibit but
will not be eligible for an award in 2012.

3.  Maximum size of work one metre square

4.  Reasonable security precautions will be taken for the safety of
paintings submitted.  However, neither the Trustees nor the
Society nor Malone House accept any responsibility for safety of
 exhibits and their insurance is entirely the responsibility of the owner.


5.  Pictures must have provision for hanging and have both
an adhesive and tie-on label, stating:
(a) Name, address and telephone number of artist.
(b)  Title, medium and number 1,2 or 3 (where applicable)
(c)  Whether for sale, and if so, how much.

6.  A handling fee of £5.00 per picture will be payable at entry.

7.  Artists must arrange their own delivery and collection.

8.  Sale of pictures is undertaken by the Gallery,
subject to a commission of 25%.

9.  Pictures shall not be removed during the period of the exhibition.
