On June 14th 1921, Featherstone Rovers officially applied to join the Northern Rugby League. At this meeting it was stated that,' there was no doubt they would make their way in the league.' How true this was! It took Rovers only 7 years to reach the top 4 and so enter the play-offs.

Steady improvement in the league position led to the Rovers finishing 3rd in the 1928 League Table.

In the play-off semi-final, Sid Denton scored a 75yard solo try to ensure a 15-12 victory over Leeds and Rovers place in the Final. The final was played at Oldham, Swinton providing the opposition. After a tremendous season, the Swinton team were striving to emulate Hunslet's and Huddersfield's feat of winning 'all four cups' and on the day proved too good for Rovers. In the final Rovers failed to reproduce their best form and were dominated by Swinton's forwards and went down 11-0. It was said that many of the Rovers supporters who couldn't afford the train fare had set off the previous night in order to walk to Oldham!
