From Family Search Ancestral Files

John Chillas b. circa 1807 Aberdeen, married (1) to Catherine, born Scotland circa 1811 (2) to  Mary E. b 1808 Lancaster Pennsylvania, John died 1860.

Children by Mary:

John Humes Chillas b. 1832 possibly Scotland

Mary Chillas b. 12 February 1841 Pa, died 17 March 1861

Isabella b. 1845 Lancaster Pa

I believe this is John Chillas b. 1805 Kilbarchan. His father Arthur was born in Aberdeen. Two of John's brothers did emigrate to the US.

From the Rootsweb Message Boards

Alexander Chillas and wife Maggie Thompson appear on a gravestone in  Dillsboro, Dearborn County, Indiana : Alexander 1808--1868, born Scotland and Maggie 1803 -1881. One researcher has published a tree for Alexander giving his date of birth as 1800.

An Alexander Chillas married a Margaret Thompson in Cheshire, England in 1825.

The stone is located next to that of David Chillas. David was born 1831 in New Jersey, NY and moved to Indiana, a state neighbouring on Kentucky. In the 1850 census for Newport, Kentucky the following family appear:

Alexander Chillis age 40   Poland
Margaret Chillis age 40
David Chillis age 17          N J
Eliza Chillas age 15           N J
Jane Thompson age 78     Ireland
Sarah Thompson age 42

In the records for New Jersey, David Chillas' father's origin was given as Netherland and his mother's origin Ireland.

I believe that  Poland and Netherland are enumerator errors. It is likely that this was Alexander Chillas b. 1802 Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire. I can find no marriage or death records for him in Scotland and it seems reasonable that, like his brothers, David and Arthur, he emigrated to the US.
