ACTON RESEARCH INTERESTS

A 6xgreat grandmother of mine was Etheldra Acton, who was baptised in 1673 at Longnor, Shropshire, the daughter of Henry Acton and Hannah (née Corbett).  Etheldra married William Bowdler either at Longnor or Stapleton, Shropshire, in 1696 (the marriage being recorded in the registers of both parishes). They had eight children, all baptised at Longnor: John (1697), Elizabeth (1699), Elizabeth (1703), William (1706), Joyce (1708), Etheldra (1711), Francis (1713) and Edward (1716).

Etheldra's father, Henry Acton, is believed to have been baptised at Norbury, Shropshire, in 1632, the son of Rowland Acton and Ann(e) (née Bright). Henry married Hannah Corbett at Longnor in 1671, and in addtion to Etheldra, they had 5 other children, all baptised in Longnor: Margaret (1671/2 - 1699/1700), Hannah (1675 - 1759), Henry (1677), Robert (1679), and Francis (1682).   Son Henry emigrated to Maryland, USA, prior to 1708.

Henry's father, Rowland Acton, was baptised in 1597/8 at Norbury, and married Anne Bright in 1621 at Norbury.  Anne's mother was also an Acton - Margaret Acton, who married William Bright at Norbury in 1589.  It is not known whether and how Margaret is related to her son-in-law, Rowland.

Rowland was the son of John Acton, who also had sons John (1606/7) and Edward (1609/10).

John Acton was the son of Henry Acton, who was buried at Norbury.
