CROWTHER RESEARCH INTERESTS

My interest in the Crowther family stems from my 4xgreat grandmother, Ann Crowther, who married John George on July 19th, 1779, at Stoke St. Milborough, Shropshire.  John signed the register; Ann made her mark. The marriage was conducted by R. Price, Curate of Tugford. The marriage was witnessed by Samuel Tayler (who witnessed many marriages) and Rees Preece (or Price) (could be the Clerk).  The marriage licence gives Ann's age as 24, but does not provide age for John.

Ann was probably the daughter of Edward Crowther and Ann, baptised on February 3rd, 1756, at Stoke St. Milborough (fits with age at marriage). The parents may have been Edward Crowther and Ann Davis, who were married in Bitterley, Shropshire, on December 13th, 1748.  Mother, Ann, may have been the Ann Crowther buried on September 25th, 1803, at Stoke St. Milborough, aged 80 (but there was another Ann Crowther, wife of John, bearing children in Stoke St. Milborough in the 1750s).  There were many Crowthers in Stoke St. Milborough at this time, but there is no other reference to Edward Crowther in the printed register of the parish (up to 1812).
