My direct ancestral Crudgington line is as follows:
Thomas Crogeton. Born around 1425, a farmer at Oldington and/or Newton, Worfield, in Shropshire. I have no record of his wife or any children other than John. He died in 1483. The Hardwick papers show in 1483 (22 Hen IV): "Thos Crogeton died seized of 1 messuage and ½ the said piece in Oldington and that John was his son then aged 30".
John Crogeton. Born 1453, a farmer at Oldington and/or Newton, Worfield. He married Joan (maiden name unknown) and had a child, Thomas, and probably also Humfrey and Richard. He probably died in 1503. Joan, who was probably born around 1460, died in 1511 or 1512.
Thomas Croginton. Born around 1480, a farmer of Newton, Worfield, and possibly the neighbouring parish of Stockton. He married Alys (maiden name unknown) and they had four children: John, Agnes, Elizabeth and Richard. He died in 1527. Alys died in 1543. Click here for full transcription of her Will.
John Croginton. Born around 1510, a yeoman of Newton, Worfield. He married Christabel Garbett, and they had three children: John, Elizabeth and Roger. He died in 1569.
John Croginton. Born around 1535, a yeoman of Newton, Worfield. He married Alys (maiden name unknown) and they had six children: John, Roger, Frances, Frances, Mary and Magdalen. He died in 1599. His Will indicates that there were at least four rooms in his house - hall, kitchen, over chamber and loft. He was engaged in the weaving industry, and the inventory included 28 sheep, kersey and yarn, and tools: weeting fatte, frayme, harnes, colte, thongs, crabbe wringe, and various cauldrons. He ran the business with his brother, Roger. His son, John, inherits the work in hand. Click here for full transcription of the Will. Alys died in 1604.
Roger Croginton. Probably born around 1560, at Worfield, Salop, pre-dating the start of the baptism register in 1562. He married Margery (or Margaret) Taylor in 1590 at Trysull, Staffs, about five miles from Worfield. They had children: Frances, Thomas, Phillip and Edward, all baptised at Worfield, and probably also Robert and John (baptisms not traced). Roger died in 1627 and was buried at Worfield.
Edward Crudgington (or Croginton). Baptised in 1599 at Worfield. He married Mary (maiden name unknown) c. 1628, and they had seven children: Francis, Mary, George, Elinor, Margery, Thomas and Elizabeth; all baptised in Chelmarsh, except Francis (Worfield). He died in 1670 and was buried at Stoke St. Milborough, Salop.
Thomas Crudgington (or Crudgeton). Baptised in 1644 at Chelmarsh, Salop. He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) c. 1668, and they had seven children (baptised at Ditton Priors): Thomas, Abigail, Richard, Edward, Thomas, George and Mary. Elizabeth died in 1685, and Thomas probably remarried five months later to Anne Smalman at Ditton Priors. Thomas was a Churchwarden at Ditton Priors between 1689 and 1707. I have no record of his death.
Richard Crudgington. Baptised in 1673 at Ditton Priors, Salop. He married Mary Collins in 1703 at Wheathill, Salop, and they had four children: Richard, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth, all baptised at Wheathill. He died in 1762, aged 88 or 89, and is buried at Bitterley.
Mary Crudgington. Baptised in 1708 at Wheathill. She married Richard Millichap in 1732 at Stoke St. Milborough, and they had four children, all baptised at Abdon, Salop: Elizabeth, Milliona, Rhesa and Richard. She died in 1791 and is buried at Bitterley, Salop.
