Margaret's grandmother was Alice Myetta Mattey (1850-1923). Alice was the daughter of John Mattey (1810-1873) by his second wife, Joanna Jay. John's first wife was Beatrice Jay (née Davies) who was Joanna Jay's mother by her previous marriage! John was the son of Joseph Mattey (c. 1782-1848/9) and his wife, Mary Pinches, who married in 1809. This Joseph was the son of Joseph Mattey (1744/5-1802) and his wife, Mary Pullen, who had four other children, William (1770), Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth; Joseph and Mary were married at Much Marcle, Herefordshire, in 1769. This Joseph was the son of John Matte (Matty) and Elizabeth, who were married in 1739 at Little Marcle, Herefordshire; John and Elizabeth had two other children, Elizabeth (1739) and William (1749).
