MORRIS RESEARCH INTERESTS

I have two lines of interest in the Morris family.

Firstly, a great grandmother of mine was Margaret Annie Morris. She married Richard Harris, probably c. 1893/4, and had five children: Elizabeth Annie Constance, Mary, Gladys, Headley and Marjorie. Curiously, I have been unable to trace the marriage in the BMD Registers at the Family Records Centre. Constance (Elizabeth Annie Constance Harris, known as Connie) was my paternal grandmother. Richard was born in Beguildy, Radnorshire, in 1867/8. In 1894, at least, Margaret and Richard lived at Back Brook, Aymestrey, Herefordshire.

I have so far been unable to trace Margaret's parentage. There are too many possibilities in the 1881 census. Not being able to trace the marriage to Richard Harris is a problem. Hopefully the 1901 census, when available for inspection in 2002 will help.

Secondly, a probable 5xgreat grandmother of mine was Mary Morris. I think she is the Mary who married my 4xgreat grandfather, William Breakwell. A William Breakwell and Mary Morris were married on April 26th, 1769, at Burford, Shropshire, witnessed by William Gardner (and John Tolly); the marriage register indicates William was of Hopton Wafer; both made their mark). William and Mary had 15 children baptised between 1770 and 1799, all at Hopton Wafers, bar the first which was baptised at Burford. I have not attempted any research on the ancestry of Mary Morris.

William's brother, John Breakwell, also married a Morris - he married Elizabeth Morris at Cleobury Mortimer in 1772. It is not known whether Mary and Elizabeth were related.
