Paul Carroll
I'm a 48 year old Railway Worker who has spent much of his working life drilling for Oil and Gas in various inhospitable parts of the world, including The Gulf of Mexico, Libya, Malta, Denmark and the North Sea. I have helped drill exploration and development wells in many areas, and have worked on a variety of installations from small land rigs to the mammoth concrete platforms found in the Northern North Sea.
I've since given this up to pursue a more conventional career, and am now working as a Sytstems Assurance Engineer for Bombardier Transportation Rail Control Solutions
If you want to see more about my working life, take a look at my Curriculum Vitae (That's the same as a resume for those of you in North America!!)
I have a keen interest in several topics, and here are links to some of them.
The South Atlantic and Sub-Antarctic Islands
Theses islands have been of interest to me for many years, and I would dearly love to visit them. Their flora, fauna and geography are unique, and many have evolved species which are adapted to the distinctive climates and characteristics found on such islands - for example the flightless birds and insects of the Tristan da Cunha Archipelago.
Without exception, the islands are remote and often inhospitable. Many are volcanic (such as Ascension Island, St. Helena and Tristan da Cunha) and have been recently active.

Rugby Union
Rugby Union is going through an interesting time just now: professionalism, the buying power of Satellite TV companies and the decline of Rugby League are all contributing to the biggest upheaval since the Rugby League seceded in the 1890's
I used to play the game (at Centre for a team known as the Derby Stags) but old age has crept up on me. I now referee as a member of the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire Referees Society.
