I am afraid you are now looking at something historic. Even though every single concert and ceilidh was brilliant, the support from folkies, especially the local ones, did not make this venture sustainable. Therefore the curtain comes down on Folk At T'Mill and may I thanks all those who did support us. Enjoy the festival. Dave Godwin

THE STORY so far................

If Folk at T'Mill is a new phrase to you, please allow us to introduce it to you.

Folk at t'Mill is something between a folk festival and a folk club which 'happen' once or twice a month, usually on Saturday nights. Our high quality venue is the George Lawton Hall (or GLH) in the village of Mossley which is just 3 miles SSW of Uppermill (if you're a crow!). If you're not, there is just one set of permanent traffic lights to negotiate (and a few bends) between Uppermill and the GLH own large free car park (at the rear).

Folk at T'Mill was inspired by a newly retired BT employee who found himself with a little more time on his hands. Also, with his inherent love of quality folk music, he put his energy into this new venture with generous gusto and WITHOUT profit in his sights (though his accountant makes sure he stays on the break-even track). Thus Folk at T'Mill boasts both the best value top quality talent available AND minimum 3rd party bureaucracy expense. So far Folk at T'Mill has seen impeccable performances from ceilidh bands ALL BLACKED UP and PEEPING TOM, stunning nights from England's MADDY PRIOR Canada's NATALIE MACMASTER Scotland's BATTLEFIELD BAND Ireland's PATRICK STREET plus admirable local support.

As Folk at T'Mill evolves, we use bothway feedback to continuously improve, so please bring a pen with you to fill in the small BLUE forms because this allows us to save on pencils (besides other things!). You could also win a valuable prize at the interval when the BLUE forms are collected - a CD, a Folk at T'Mill polo shirt, a leather badge and car sticker(s) or 2 free tickets to any following concert or ceilidh of your choice!

Nowadays Folk at T'Mill nights are not run just by one individual (impossible) but by an enthusiastic and helpful GREEN team chosen for their colourful personalities.

By the way, if you think you live too far away, our audience has included people from as far away as Anglesey in North Wales, Halifax in Yorkshire, Preston in Lancashire and Sandbach in Cheshire. We also award a prize for the furthest traveller!

Oh, and already thanks to your feedback, we are adopting the more casual cabaret-style seating (so the bar is open throughout!), a no-smoking side to the hall plus PURE CEILIDH nights in the future i.e. Wall-to-wall dancing throughout the night. Next one is with England's THE COCK AND BULL BAND (Friday, Feb 18th) .

Anyone with original ideas to support Folk at T'Mill, please contact Dave Godwin on 01457 872494 or Tony Greene on his mobile on 0410 90 20 20.

Tickets can be obtained by sending an S.A.E. and a cheque payable to F.A.T. (£8.50 for concerts, £5.50 for ceilidhs) to Dave Godwin, 15 Mount View, Uppermill, SADDLEWORTH OL3 6DB....and if you can't figure out what F.A.T. stands for, then please read this again!
