Royal Nepalese Embassy to host reception in British Museum

On the occasion of the celebrations of year long events of Visit Nepal Year '98, Royal Nepalese Ambassador Dr Singha Bahadur Basnyat and HRH Princess Jotshana Basnyat is hosting a reception at the British Museum on 6th May 1998.

The reception will be graciously attended by HRH Princess Helen Shah and HRH Princess Jayanti Shah of Nepal.


Nepalese launch 'International Friendship Day'

In the co-ordination of Mr Padma Prakash Shrestha, Chairman of Nepal Kingdom Foundation, UK; the first ever ‘International Friendship Day’ was launched in Reading, UK today. The launching of Friendship Day started with recitation of seven religious prayers at the same time on the same spot as the unique symbol of friendship. Royal Nepalese Ambassador, Dr Singha B Basnyat, HRH Princess Jotshna Basnet , The Mayor of Reading Cllr. Rose Williams, Jane Griffith MP, Vice Chancellor of University of Reading Roger Williams, Mr Prahlad Prasai Consular of RN Embassy and Mr Chandra Sagar Lama the President of Nepal Kingdom Foundation were prominent figures attended the launching with more than 300 distinguished invitees.

During the launching of the event, congratulation messages received from Sagarmatha Times - UK, Nepal Support Society - UK, The Nepalese Doctors Association -UK, The Nepalese Association Himalayan Yeti, The Nepalese Association Yeti, UNESCO, Mr Richard Branson and others were also read out. The Joint Secretary of Nepal Kingdom Foundation Mr Mahanta Shrestha extended thanks to all participants and supporters who made the Friendship Day a great success. Courtesy meeting

A Sagarmatha Times delegation called on Royal Nepalese Ambassador His Excellency Dr. Singha Bahadur Basnyat at the Royal Nepalese Embassy for a courtesy meeting on 25th April and discussed various matters and exchanged views.

Mr Prahlad Prasai, the Consular of Royal Nepalese Embassy was also present on the meeting.


Himalayan Yeti formed

Nepalese nationals residing in UK have decided to form Nepali association named "Himalayan Yeti" with its Head Office in Manchester, UK. As per our correspondent, the association will be spreading its branches all over UK to facilitate Nepalese residing in various areas. The main motto of association is to unite all Nepalese in one main stream for strengthening and development of Nepalese nationalism, culture, religious and other matters.


Congratulatory message

Sagarmatha Times has sent a congratulatory message to Nepal Kingdom Foundation on the first ever 'National and International Friendship Day' to be held on 29th April 1998.


Activities of Himalayan Yeti

As per the communiqué received following are the activities of Himalayan Yeti :

Sixth session : Held at The Swan Hotel in Cheshire on 11/12th April with Annual General Meeting.

New Year Celebrations : Nepalese New Year 2055 was celebrated in presence of the Royal Nepalese Ambassador H.E Dr. Singha Bahadur Basnyat and HRH Princess Jotshana Basnyat.

Constitution Amendment : As per the suggestion of constitution amendment committee, the 1994 constitution being amended and renamed as Himalayan Yeti.

Executive Meeting : The executive meeting will be held at Swinton on 10th May and discussing annual working plan as well as 2nd Nepal Himalayan Festival as per agenda.

2nd Nepal Himalayan Festival : The Royal Nepalese Ambassador and the Lord Mayor of Manchester are to officially inaugurate the 3 day long festival on 29th May.

Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to reach the summit of Sagarmatha and his team mate Mr. George Lowe are participating as key speakers during the festival.

BBC Radio - English, 'The Great Outdoor' and 'Trail' have broadcasted and published articles on Nepal in relation to the festival.


The Britain-Nepal Society Activities

5th May - Talk by Mr. Neil Haward of the University of Bradford on "The Forts of Central Nepal from Butwal to Kagbeni"

23rd June - Talk by Dr. Robin Coningham on his UNESCO visit to Lumbini

9th August - Summer Outing to Hatfield House, Herts

6th October - Talk by Jonathan Gregson, travel journalist to the Daily Telegraph

18th November - Annual General Meeting being held at the Royal Nepalese Embassy

26th January - Talk by Mr. Keith Howman, on his close association with Colonel Jimmy Roberts, with particular emphasis on pheasant conservation and climbing.


Nepalese Doctor's Association Activities

Sub-committee formed:

Dr. Gunja Man Sherchan - Cultural and Family
Dr. Sangita Shrestha - Medical and Dental
Dr. Ramji Gautam - Educational

Executive Meeting held on 25th April at Sunderland organised by Dr. Ramji Gautam.

AGM will be held in Greenwich University between 24-26 July, 1998.

Formation of Nepal Britain Paediatric Society: Dr. Deepak Upadhaya has already written a letter to all doctors in UK for its formation.


Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma Society's Activities

- Swaya Punhi (Buddha Jayanti) to be celebrated on 9th May 1998 at Southall with reciting devotional songs, talk on Dharma and presentation of video film.

- London Borough of Ealing Education Department is holding an exhibition of Buddhist religion and culture at Ealing Tertiary College, Acton Centre, Mill Hill Road, Acton W3 8UX from June 22-July 12, 1998. Various Buddhist Countries and societies are participating in this exhibition. Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma Society (UK) is representing Nepal in its organising committee. They plan to exhibit articles depicting various aspects of Buddhist religion and culture in Nepal, especially Buddha's birth place Lumbini.

Activity of Nepal Support Society, UK

NSS has raised £2045 from charity dance and dinner held on 12th April 1998, with expenses of £430 remains the balance of £1615. On top of that, NSS received £330 from membership fee made total amount of £1945. The Society has already made necessary process for sending money to Nepal to help schools.
