art on show
As part of promoting Visit Nepal Year
1998 in London, the British Museum in co-ordination with the Royal Nepalese Embassy,
London and Ministry of Tourism, Nepal, are currently holding an exhibition of Nepalese
art. This exhibition explores the traditional art and life of the Kathmandu valley.
The Nepalese art exhibition is the first such
kind of Nepalese event ever held at the British Museum and the exhibition is taking place
from March 2 and will continue until May 31, 1998.
The exhibition is supported by His Majesty's
Government of Nepal, His Majesty's Government, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, the
Royal Nepalese Embassy, London, and the Britain-Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Bright Sun
Travel, The Colt Group Limited, Veedon Fleece Limited, The O'Hea Charitable Trust.
Yeti Celebration
Yeti, the Nepalese Association in UK hosted a
function to celebrate Tribhuvan Jayanti and 48th National Democracy Day at Greenwich,
London on 22nd February 1998. The function was followed by various culture programs.
The function was organised by Nepalese youth
residing at South-West London. The credit goes to Mr. Durga Pandey, Mr. Pashupati
Bhandari, Mr. Baljung Aryal, Mr. Omilal Gautam, Mr. Moti Raj Bhandari and all other
friends.
The Royal Nepalese Ambassador His Excellency
Dr. Singha B. Basnyat and HRH Princess Jotshana Basnyat was main guest on the occasion.
Activities of Yeti-Midlands and North UK
As per communiqué received from Manchester,
following are their activities :
Nepal Himalayan Festival : Yeti
Midlands and North are currently preparing for the second Nepal Himalayan Festival which
is to be held in Manchester on May 1998. With the aim of exposing Nepal, its culture and
history to the outside world, Yeti have managed to involve Royal Nepalese Embassy, London
and Manchester City council for their support in making this festival a grand success.
Nepalese New Year : It has been decided
to celebrate Nepalese New Year 2055 on 12th April 1998. Yeti Midlands and North UK openly
invite everyone to celebrate the Nepalese New year at Hough End Centre.
Sixth AGM : The 6th AGM will be held on
April 11 at venue to be announced.
Nepalese Language Classes : The classes
are regularly conducted on every Saturday, now in it's fifth year, and at the Widdington
Library to enhance British friends and Nepalese youths residing in UK.
Dance Workshop : Choreographer Andrea
Young has been conducting dance workshop for the participants above 4 years of age from
the past three months. The workshop is aimed to develop Nepali dances and health of the
participants through the use of hand and limbs.
The workshop is conducted free of charge to
increase the interest of British friends and Nepali youths in line with the preservation
of Nepalese culture.
Nepal Kingdom Foundation Activities :

Foundation, following are their activities :
Nepalese Buddhist Bihar : Lama Rimpoche
is performing Buddhist service with prayers every morning in the Nepalese Buddhist Bihar,
Reading. Those interested in the service are requested to contact Nepal Kingdom Foundation

Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma
Society AGM
Lumbini Nepalese Buddha Dharma Society (UK)
recently held it's first AGM at Southall, London under the chairmanship of Ven. Bhikkhu
Seevali.
The society was formed in February 1997 and
the AGM was attended by more than a hundred interested participants.
Nepal Support Society, UK
With the purpose of helping the needy people
of Nepal and providing them support with basic facilities such as, schooling, helping with
study costs, public amenities, drinking water, medicine, etc.. a new charity association
called Nepal Support Society, UK was formed.
This was informed to our reporters by the
chairman of the society, Mrs Nelia Ranamagar who would also like to request you to help
this society achieve its goals by becoming a member.
Diabetes Centre Appeal
Mr. Chandra Sagar Lama and Mrs Pasang L.
Tamang of Standard Tandoori Restaurant, Reading donated buffet meal for 350 guests at a
fundraising events for the diabetes centre appeal organised West Berkshire Hospital
Charity.
Nepalese dancing, and members of the 1st
Battalion Gurkha Rifles entertained the guests. Mr. Lama donated the meal as a tribute to
the late Rambahadur Tamang. The evening was a great success, raising over 5,800 pounds for
the appeal.
